Women’s Cross Country Places 14th at Championships for Second Best Finish

This result is tied for the second best mark in program history

Lastra led the way with her career best 64th-place finish

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (December 1, 2018) - The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked No. 1 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association East Regional Rankings (USTFCCCA), competed in its 19th-straight trip to the NCAA Division II Championships and took home a 14th-place finish at the Bob O'Connor Golf Course at Schenley.

Grand Valley State University led the way with the women's title with 41 points, while University of Mary finished second with 83 points and Adams State University combined for 90 points for third place. Stonehill was the first team from the East Region to cross the finish line, totaling 449 points, just falling to Pittsburg State University in the tie breaker for 14th place. Roberts Wesleyan University was the next East Regional school, taking home 21st place with 532 points.

Junior Anna Lastra led the way for the Skyhawks, finishing 64th for her career best finish in her third Championship. The junior clocked in a time of 24:01.1 in the six-kilometer race out of 264 competitors.

Classmate Alyssa Freeman finished just inside the top 100, as the 99th competitor across the finish line clocking in a time of 24:23.1 in her second NCAA Championship for a career best mark.  Appearing in her third NCAA Championship, senior Makenzie Cyr placed a career- best 114th with a time of 24:30.5.

Sophomore Sam Curtin wasn't far behind Cyr with her time of 24:31.7, good for 118th place, a career best mark at the Championships. Freshman Rebecca Erhard was the next Skyhawk across the finish line with a time of 24:51.0, as she appeared in her first NCAA Championship, taking home 143rd overall.

Junior Jordan Callahan and senior Isabel Baker ran in their first NCAA Championship, both finishing in the top-200. Callahan clocked in at 25:15.9 finishing 166th, as Baker was 182nd with a time of 25:31.1.

The Skyhawks wrapped up the season with the program's 17th Northeast-10 Conference Championship and 10th-straight with nine All-Conference honorees and the individual champion, its 15th NCAA Division II East Region Championship and eighth title in 10 years with all seven competitors on the All-East Region team, and 14th at the NCAA Division II Championships which is tied for second overall with 2004 and 2015.
