ALBANY, N.Y. (October 31, 2015) – The Stonehill College volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 29-27) to The College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action this evening at Nolan Gymnasium.
Junior setter Taylor Stevens (Foster, Rhode Island/Ponaganset) recorded 28 assists to go with six digs defensively and three kills. Sophomore outside hitter Ashley Hitchcock (Warrenville, Illinios/Benet Academy) hit .300 with seven kills and nine digs, while senior Kelsey Weymouth (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/North Attleboro) totaled nine kills and four digs.
Sophomore libero Claire Manuszak (Indianapolis, Indiana/Bishop Chatard) posted seven digs, and classmate Marykay Nasby (Belle Plaine, Minnesota/Belle Plaine) chipped in with seven kills, one block assist and four digs.
Junior middle hitter Maryellen Devic (Orchard Park, New York/Orchard Park) turned in a balanced all-around effort for Saint Rose, as she posted 11 kills and 8 digs while also recording three block assists.
Freshman setter Sam Kubik (Chicago, Illinios/Chicago Christian) facilitated the offense with 20 asssits, while junior outside hitter Rachel Salasky (Virginia Beach, Virginia/Floyd E. Kellam) totaled 10 kills and three digs.
Stonehill struggled throughout the match, hitting .077 in the opening set, .256 in the middle frame, and had their best hitting percentage, .303 in the third set, for a .212 average in the match. Saint Rose, on the other hand, hit .431 as a team, including .348 in the first set, .594 in the second, and .351 in the third frame.
Stonehill (10-14, 4-8 NE-10) hosts Southern Connecticut University on Saturday, November 7th in Merkert Gymnasium at 1 p.m. on "Senior Day." The Skyhawks will honor their senior class of, Delia Phillips, Kelsey Weymouth and Meaghan Martin on Saturday afternoon. Saint Rose (10-10, 6-5 NE-10) travels to North Andover on Saturday, November 7th, to take on Merrimack College at 1:00 p.m.
