Stonehill got off to a strong start in the first set leading 10-4, led by Phillips' two kills. The Skyhawks went on another long run, pushing their lead to a commanding 21-9, before Kathleen Benson (Kings Park, New York/Kings Park) recorded a kill to make the score 21-10. A kill by Alyssa Marchino (Lindenhurst, New York/Lindenhurst) brought the Setters as close as they would come (23-13), but an emphatic kill by Delanty gave the Skyhawks the first set, 25-14.
The second frame was much tighter, with both teams trading leads through the first 12 points. With the score tied at 12, Phillips and Delanty recorded three consecutive kills to give the Skyhawks some breathing room at 15-12.
