Junior outside hitter Kelsey Weymouth led the Stonehill offense with 20 kills in two matches today.
Skyhawks fall to Shippensburg, 3-0, before rebounding to sweep Goldey-Beacom 3-0
Millersville, Pa. (September 6, 2014) – The Stonehill College volleyball team split its final two matches at the Millersville Marauder Clash this afternoon, falling to Shippensburg University 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-20) before rebounding to sweep Goldey-Beacom College 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-21).
Junior outside hitter Kelsey Weymouth (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/North Attleboro) led the offense against Shippensburg with ten kills, and senior setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Illinois/York) recorded 26 assists.
Senior middle blocker Mary-Kate Catton (San Diego, California/Academy of Our Lady of Peace) hit .538 with seven kills, while classmate Meaghan Lee (Hanover, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) registered four blocks. Sophomore Taylor Stevens (Foster, Rhode Island/Ponaganset) and freshman Claire Manuszak (Indianapolis, Indiana/Bishop Chatard) each tallied seven digs to lead the defense.
Weymouth again led the Skyhawks with 10 kills against Goldey-Beacom, and the junior also contributed six digs. Iverson surpassed the 30-assist mark for the third time in four matches this weekend, as she racked up 33, while Lee totaled eight kills.
Defensively, Manuszak recorded 11 digs to lead the defense, as Stonehill earned a victory in its final match of the weekend.
The Skyhawks (3-1, 0-0 Northeast-10) will be back in action next weekend at the Wildcat Regional Invitational, hosted by Wilmington University in Wilmington, Deleware. Stonehill will take on Holy Family University, which it defeated yesterday, on Friday night before playing Dowling College and host Wilmington on Saturday.
