EASTON, Mass. (October 18, 2011) – Stonehill College freshman Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Setter of the Week and Rookie of the Week by the league office, it was announced earlier today.
Through seven reporting periods, Iverson now has nine awards total – the most among any athlete in the NE-10 – earning Setter of the Week accolades three times (Sept. 7 and Sept. 20) in addition to her six-straight Rookie of the Week awards (Sept. 13, Sept. 20, Sept. 27, Oct. 4 and Oct. 11).
Iverson piloted a Stonehill offense that went 3-0 overall averaging 10.78 assists per set and 2.0 digs per set (14 sets). Iverson recorded match-highs in assists in all three matches played on the week including a 56 assist performance in a 3-2 victory over American International on Tuesday to go along with 12 digs, her seventh double-double this season. On the week, Iverson also added four kills, one service ace and four block assists.
As of October 16, Iverson ranks 40th overall among all NCAA Division II setters in the country – moving up three spots from last week – and fifth among all freshman setters averaging 10.31 assists per set on the season. In the NE-10, Iverson leads all setters with 887 assists total – 75 ahead of second place in the conference – and is the only player at the position to average double-figures in assists per set.
Iverson has played in every set for Stonehill so far this season – 86 sets/23 matches – joining teammates Laura Huselton (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) and Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) atop the NE-10 leaderboard for sets played this fall.
The freshman setter has also filled out the rest of the stat sheet compiling 52 kills, 25 service aces, 179 digs (2.08 per set), and 19 blocks (four solo).
