Stonehill Competes At BU John Thomas Terrier Classic


Senior All-American Maria Curit posted a program record for the third straight meet and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.24 seconds.

BOSTON, Mass. (January 30, 2015) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team returned to action today at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University at the BU Track & Tennis Center. 

Senior All-American Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) posted a program record for the third consecutive meet, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships and placing seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.24 seconds. Her time currently ranks fourth in all of NCAA Division II in the event. At last weekend's University of Rhode Island Sorlien Invitational, Curit automatically qualified for NCAAs in the 800-meter run, turning in a program record time of 2:11.29. 

Curit also placed 18th and posted a time of 25.03 seconds in the 200-meter dash, leading five Skyhawk entries in the event. Junior Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) placed 62nd and clocked in at 26.30 seconds, while sophomore Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) finished 78th in 26.59 seconds. 

Sophomore Lexi Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) qualifed for next month's New England Championships in the 800-meter run, placing 38th with a time of 2:18.40. Junior Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) followed Buonfiglio in 45th, earning a time of 2:19.03. 

Junior Molly Hellman (Rumson, New Jersey/Rumson-Fairhaven Regional) posted a New England qualifying performance in the 1000-meter run, placing 24th in 3:01.33, while freshman Julie Schultz (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica) finished 75th in the 3000-meter run, clocking in at 10:41.10. 

Freshman Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) and junior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) represented Stonehill in the shot put, placing 19th and 29th, respectively. Farrell recorded a distance of 38 feet, 9.5 inches, while Pierson's throw reached 37 feet, 0.50 inches. 

Junior Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) and freshman Azariah Boyd (Brockton, Massachusetts/Brockton) placed 27th and 55th out of 81 total entries in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 9.28 and 9.63 seconds, respectively.

Senior Brianna Venturo (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) was Stonehill's lone entry in the 5000-meter run, and she placed 44th in 18:19.18.

Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay will compete tomorrow morning at the Terrier Classic, before the Skyhawks return to the University of Rhode Island next Saturday for the Coaches Tribute Meet.
