Sixth-seeded Skyhawks receive at large bid, face third-seeded Concordia in first round Saturday at Queens (N.Y.)
EASTON, Mass. (May 3, 2016) – Stonehill College has earned an at large bid to the 2016 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships and is seeded sixth in the East Region the NCAA selection committee announced tonight.
Stonehill (15-9, 10-2 NE-10) earns its tenth NCAA Tournament bid and will make its second straight appearance under second year head coach Marc Maloney (28-17/.622) and seventh in the last eight seasons overall. The Skyhawks will face third-seeded and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) champions Concordia (N.Y.) College (10-6, 7-0 CACC) in a first round matchup, hosted by Queens (N.Y.) College, in Flushing, New York, on Saturday (Time TBA). The winner will advance to face second-seeded Queens (16-3, 6-1 ECC), ranked 45th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II rankings, in a regional semifinal on Sunday, May 8. Match times for this weekend are to be announced.
Top-seeded and No. 40-ranked New York Institute of Technology (19-6, 7-0 ECC), the East Coast Conference (ECC) champions will host the other East Regional bracket on Monday and Tuesday, May 9-10, and await the winner of a first round match between fourth-seeded Adelphi University (16-1, 12-0 NE-10), the Northeast-10 Conference Champions, and fifth-seeded Chestnut Hill College (14-9, 6-1 CACC). The winners of the two East Regional brackets will advance to the NCAA Championships in Denver, Colorado, hosted by Metro State University, May 18-21.
