Stonehill Blanks Saint Anselm, 9-0

Smith and McKinney lead double-winners without dropping a game

EASTON, Mass. (October 12, 2013) – Stonehill College, ranked fifth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, closed out its fall schedule with a commanding 9-0 victory over Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts today.

Sophomore Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) led the six double-winners for Stonehill with wins at No. 1 singles and doubles, but sophomore Caitlin McKinney (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) and freshman Lorraine Smith (Littleton, Colo./D'Evelyn) did so as well without dropping a single game over three sets of play. The Skyhawks lost only six games on the afternoon and just three in 12 sets of singles play.

Paradiso combined with senior captain Kaitlyn Martin (Mattapoisett, Mass./Medway) for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles and then Paradiso, the 12th-ranked singles player in the East Region, claimed a 6-0, 6-2 decision at No. 1 singles over Saint Anselm senior Katherine Morrissey (Sturbridge, Mass./Tantasqua). Martin was also a double-winner for Stonehill, adding a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of sophomore Leah Fitzgerald (Bedford, N.H./Lejeune (N.C.)) at No. 4 singles.

After Smith and McKinney breezed to an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles, Smith added a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles over senior Christine Woods (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) and McKinney topped freshman Courtney Russell (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) by the same score at No. 6.

Junior Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) and sophomore Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) rounded out the double-winners for Stonehill. The duo teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles and then Lawrence added a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles against sophomore Kathryn Rindo (Lowell, Mass./Lowell Catholic), while Kump defeated junior Kate Martin (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne) 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Stonehill (7-1, 5-0 NE-10) is off until the spring semester. The spring schedule will be releases in the coming weeks. Saint Anselm (0-3, 0-3 NE-10) is also now off until the spring semester.
