EASTON, Mass. (February 26, 2019) – Stonehill College scored ten second half goals to break open a four goal halftime lead for a 17-5 victory over Saint Thomas Aquinas College in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.

Junior Jennifer Wheaton totaled a season-high six points and freshman Emma Sullivan netted a season-high five goals to lead Stonehill to its second-straight win to open the season. Wheaton scored three goals and dished out three assists for the Skyhawks, adding four draw controls, while Sullivan collected three draws, two caused turnovers and a ground ball. Junior Kaity Healey and sophomore Shannon Hughes each contributed three goals, while sophomore Olivia Pino totaled two goals and an assist with three ground balls.

Junior Bailey Grant registered six saves in the first half for Stonehill, before sophomore Kaleigh Wright posted two second half saves. Stonehill held a four-goal lead (9-5) with 15:40 to play before breaking the game open with eight unanswered goals to seal the win. Sullivan and Hughes both netted a pair of goals for the Skyhawks down the stretch, while Wheaton contributed a goal and two assists. Cajou's fourth goal of the year pulled the Spartans within 9-5, but Wheaton started the Skyhawks game-clinching run with her third goal of the day less than a minute later. Stonehill potted four goals within a two and a half minute span to start the run, with four different players scoring as Pino, freshman Kendall Fressle and Sullivan followed the Wheaton marker with goals of their own. Healey added her third goal of the afternoon with 9:28 remaining, before Sullivan and Hughes combined to net three goals in the closing 3:28.

Stonehill scored the first four goals, including a pair by Healey, to grab a quick lead after a Pino goal six minutes into the contest. Iobbi snapped the run with her first of the half with 21:51 left, but Hughes and Wheaton netted free-position goals two minutes apart to give the Skyhawks a 6-1 lead. St. Thomas Aquinas would steady and score two of the last three goals in the half, including Iobbi's second of the game, to pull within four at the break (7-3). The Spartans were back within three after sophomore Arielle Rodriguez scored the opening goal of the second half, but Wheaton and Sullivan followed with markers to restore control for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill (2-0, 0-0 NE10) returns to action at W.B. Mason on Saturday, when it wraps up its season-opening three game home stand against Molloy College at noon. STAC (1-2, 0-0 ECC) visits Caldwell University on Friday at 4 p.m.
