Duo miss out on repeat of All-America efforts from Indoor Championships
PUEBLO, Colo. (May 24, 2013) – The 2012-13 Stonehill College athletic calendar came to a close with senior All-American Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) and sophomore All-American Nick Staley (Medway, Mass./BC High) competing on day two of the 2013 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Colorado State University-Pueblo, at Neta & Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl tonight.
Thomas, an eight-time All-American over his career, and Staley, who earned All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March, missed out on their quest to repeat their All-America double performance for the indoor high jump this afternoon. Thomas, a two-time outdoor high jump All-American, finished in 13th place today as he cleared the opening height of 6-feet, 8.75-inches on his third try and then was unable to surpass 6-10.75. Staley, who was seeking his first outdoor All-America award, missed all three attempts at the opening 6-8.75 progression. Texas A&M University-Kingsville sophomore Jeron Robinson completed the indoor and outdoor national championship double with his winning height of 7-4.25 today.
Thomas also missed out on tomorrow night's 110-meter hurdles final as his time of 14.32-seconds in his preliminary heat tonight finished 17th-fastest overall, placing sixth in his heat. The two-time indoor hurdles All-American was looking to qualify for the outdoor hurdles for the first time in his career.
The Stonehill men's track & field team turned in a program-best second place finish at the New England Outdoor Championships, hosted at W.B. Mason Stadium, and placed third at the NE-10 Championships this spring.
