EASTON, Mass. (April 18, 2011) – Stonehill College cruised to a pair of wins over rival Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference softball action at Fr. William Gartland, CSC, Field this afternoon. Stonehill posted a 5-0 win in game one, before topping Bentley 12-4 in six innings in the nightcap.

Junior Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) was a combined 6-for-9 in the doubleheader for Stonehill with a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Senior Katy Abarr (Richmond, R.I./The Prout School) hit 4-for-7 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and two RBI, while sophomore Kelsey Wilcox (Canterbury, Conn./Griswold) went 3-for-6 with a home run and three RBI. Sophomore Courtney Marchand (Danville, N.H./Timberlane) finished with four RBI over the two games as the Skyhawks racked up 30 hits over the course of the afternoon, hitting .476 (30-for-63) as a team.

Junior Meghan Carter (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) and sophomore Stephanie Kasson (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) both hit a combined 2-for-6 with a run scored for Bentley for the afternoon.

Stonehill 5, Bentley 0

Junior Kaitlin Andrews (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) fired a one-hit shutout while Chelsea Stryker and Courtney Marchand both drove in two runs to key Stonehill's 5-0 win in game one.

Andrews (6-4) won her second-straight decision with her first shutout of the season (6th career) as she faced just two over the minimum, yielding a hit and a walk with a season-high matching seven strikeouts in the outing. She gave up a leadoff walk and then a fourth inning single off the centerfield fence with two outs to former high school teammate Meghan Carter.

Stryker was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI to pace Stonehill's nine hit attack, while Marchand finished 1-for-2 with a stolen base, run scored and two RBI. Freshman Jocelynne Morrell (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) batted 2-for-3 with a run scored and Katy Abarr went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Carter finished 1-for-3 in the contest for Bentley. Junior Tara Fogarty (Chester, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic) took the loss (9-10) in the circle, surrendering five earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and no walks over six innings.

Stonehill opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the third as sophomore Casey Remick (Norton, Mass./Norton) led off with a single up the middle, was sacrificed to second, and scored on a single to right center by Stryker. Abarr followed two batters later with a two-out single up the middle to drive in Stryker.

The Skyhawks added three more in the fourth as Marchand beat out an infield single with two out that scored Morrell (leadoff single) and sophomore Kaitlin Miller (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton), who doubled, as they were on the go on contact from second and third with two out. Marchand stole second and then scored on a single to left by Stryker.

Stonehill 12, Bentley 4 (6 innings)

Stonehill racked up 21 hits, including nine for extra bases and three home runs, as all nine players in the starting lineup collected hits and eight different players had RBIs to complete the sweep in game two with a 12-4 victory in six innings.

Chelsea Stryker went 4-for-5 with a double, run scored and RBI, while Katy Abarr hit 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and run scored. Kelsey Wilcox batted 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Freshman Brianna Gunter (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Courtney Marchand chipped in with two more RBI, while senior Ashley Langlois (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) went 2-for-2.

Freshman Lindsay McKillop (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) earned the win (3-5) for Stonehill, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with a strikeout and a walk over 5.2 innings. She also hit 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI at the plate. Junior Samantha Krantz (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) pinned down her second save of the season, striking out the lone batter she faced in the sixth, and also added an RBI double.

Stephanie Kasson hit 2-for-3 with a run scored for Bentley. Junior Megan Blier (Wells, Maine/Wells) went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Freshman Samantha Tierney (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketchum) finished 2-for-2 with a run scored.

Tara Fogarty (9-11) took the loss again in game two, allowing four earned runs on eight hits over 1.2 innings.

Stonehill built a 7-0 lead after five, opening with a four run second. Gunter led off with a double before McKillop helped her own cause with her second home run of the season. Stryker doubled to center with two out and then scored on a single up the middle by Casey Remick. Abarr drove in Remick, who stole second, with a double to center. Stonehill added a run in the third with Wilcox's tenth home run of the season. The Skyhawks added two more in the fourth on a two run single by Wilcox.

Bentley got a run back in the fifth as Tierney singled to left center and scored on a double to left center by freshman Jackie Gauthier (Braintree, Mass./Braintree). The Falcons got back into the game in the top of the sixth with three runs off the bat of Blier who smacked her third home run of the season with two on base to close within 7-4 and chase McKillop.

However, Krantz came on and got a strikeout to end the rally and Stonehill plated five in the home half to end the game. Kaitlin Miller led off with her fourth homer of the season before freshman Christina Swider (Hebron, Conn./RHAM) and Gunter singled ahead of an RBI double from Krantz. Marchand followed with a two-run double down the leftfield line and then Stryker drove her in with a single to right to end it.

Stonehill (14-20, 10-8 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Merrimack College for an NE-10 doubleheader at 3 p.m. Bentley (10-18, 3-15 NE-10) hosts UMass Lowell on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
