EASTON, Mass.-- Sophomore Tracey Cidlevich (Milton, Mass.) and freshman Jessica Sachse (East Williston, N.Y.) combined for a pair of complete-game performances in leading Stonehill to a sweep of a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader of Franklin Pierce on Sunday afternoon by scores of 5-2 in the opener and 3-1 in the nightcap in games played at Gartland Field.

The host Chieftains (6-13, 5-5 Northeast-10) ran their winning streak to five straight with the two triumphs, as Stonehill broke a 1-1 tie in the opener with a four-run fifth inning that featured a two-run double by freshman Lauren Rappoli (Wilmington, Mass.) as well as RBI singles from freshmen Jamie Ludwig (Trumbull, Conn.) and Jaime Ippolito (Chelsea, Mass.). Cidlevich took care of the rest on the mound for the hosts, allowing just four hits and an earned run while fanning three in going the distance for her second victory of the season, as Rappoli rapped out three of the Chieftains’ eight hits in the opening contest.

The visiting Ravens (4-14, 2-4 Northeast-10) received a pair of RBI doubles from sophomore Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ont.) and freshman Taylor Kenyon (Bennington, Vt.) in the opener, as senior Amy Torla (Haverhill, Mass.) allowed seven hits and five runs in 4 1/3 innings of work to take the setback on the mound for Franklin Pierce.

The Ravens collected both of their hits and used an RBI single by sophomore Colleen Varone (Holliston, Mass.) in their first at-bat of the nightcap, but Sachse held Franklin Pierce hitless for the remainder of the contest, though Stonehill trailed by that one run heading into its final at-bat. An RBI single by senior Nicole Pichette (Exeter, R.I.) evened matters for the Chieftains at 1-1, and a two-out error allowed her to score the go-ahead run before freshman Stephanie Folan (Glen Cove, N.Y.) added an insurance RBI single to account for the final score. Sachse recorded 15 ground ball outs and fanned three to improve to 3-2 on the mound for Stonehill, as Folan recorded two of the Chieftains’ seven hits in the nightcap triumph.

Freshman Jenna Giardina (Pittsfield, Mass.) joined Varone in notching a first inning hit for Franklin Pierce in the second game, as freshman Lindsay Knapp (Elmira, N.Y.) was a tough-luck loser on the mound for the Ravens, allowing seven hits and one earned run while striking out a pair.

Stonehill travels to North Andover, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon to take on Merrimack in a Northeast-10 twinbill that begins at 3:30 p.m., while Franklin Pierce hosts Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon in Rindge, N.H. that also begins at 3:30 p.m.
