Newman posted wins at No. 1 singles and doubles again for the Skyhawks

Newman, Miller, White and Huynh all double-winners for Skyhawks

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 4, 2019) – Stonehill College bounced back from Sunday's setback with a 6-1 triumph over SUNY-Oneonta in non-conference men's tennis action at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus this morning.

Junior Samuel Miller and sophomore Trent Newman led four double-winners for Stonehill in the win. The Skyhawks swept the three doubles matches to earn the first point in the match, with Miller and Newman posting a 7-5 victory at No. 1 doubles. Miller followed that up with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles against Oneonta senior Nicholas Fox for the Skyhawks match-clinching fourth point. Newman added a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) decision over junior Marco Ammirati at No. 1 singles.

Sophomore Russell White and freshman Vincent Huynh were also double-winners for Stonehill. White and sophomore Aleksander Lazowski registered a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles for the Skyhawks and then White posted a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles against freshman Dalton Capobianco .

Huynh and freshman Luke Mendoza completed the doubles sweep for Stonehill with their 6-4 win at No. 3. Huynh would go on to add a back and forth 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 singles against sophomore Riley Smith.

Junior Aaron Diamond also picked up a singles win for the Skyhawks at No. 6. Junior Alexander Reiley earned Oneonta's lone point with a win at No. 5 singles.

Stonehill (5-2, 0-0 NE10) has a day off on Tuesday, before returning to the courts on Wednesday to face Saint John's University of Minnesota at the USTA National Campus at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Saturday, March 16, to host Roger Williams College at 1 p.m. Oneonta (2-3, 0-0 SUNYAC) has a second match tonight against Clark University at 6:30 p.m.
