Stonehill Singles Out Southern New Hampshire, 5-4

Senior Jon Sanders clinched they big NE-10 win with his victory at No. 5 singles.

Skyhawks erase 2-1 deficit following doubles with four singles wins 

GOFFSTOWN, N.H. (March 28, 2015) – Stonehill College won four of six singles matches to claim a big 5-4 triumph over Southern New Hampshire University, ranked ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action at the Allard Center YMCA tonight.

Senior Jon Sanders (Holbrook, New York/Saint Anthony's) clinched the win for Stonehill with his 7-6 (7-2), 6-0 decision at No. 5 singles against Southern New Hampshire freshman Jeremy Reichentahl. Classmate Tom Alaimo (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) also grinded out a big 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win at No. 2 singles against SNHU freshman Emerson Kelby.

Freshman Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) and junior Philip Klados (Lake Forest, California/Santa Margarita Catholic) also earned key singles points for Stonehill. Lisichenok defeated senior Evan Eaton 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles, while Klados breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles against junior Mark Dobek.

Freshman Xavier Aubron and Sebastian Rameriz were both double-winners for Southern New Hampshire. Aubron and Kelby, the fourth-ranked doubles team in the East Region by the ITA, edged Lisichenok and freshman Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) 9-8 (7-3) at No. 1 doubles. Aubron, the 19th-ranked singles player in the region by the ITA, followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Bellio at No. 1 singles.

Ramirez and Eaton teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles for SNHU against Alaimo and Sanders. Ramirez also contributed a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles against Stonehill senior Jared Drzal (West Sayville, New York/Sayville).

Drzal and freshman Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM) earned Stonehill's doubles point with their 8-5 decision at No. 3 against Reichentahl and senior Brad Malenich.

Stonehill (8-4, 3-1 NE-10) is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Bentley University, ranked tenth in the ITA East Regional rankings, at 3 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (3-5, 3-2 NE-10) hosts Assumption College on Monday at 3 p.m.
