Stonehill Tops Roger Williams, 9-0

Skyhawks post third straight victory with non-conference decision

EASTON, Mass. (March 24, 2013) – Stonehill College, ranked tenth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings released on Wednesday, claimed a 9-0 victory over Roger Williams University in non-conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Sophomore Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) led six double-winners for Stonehill. He teamed up with senior Chris Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien) for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles and then Ringstad rallied for a 2-6, 7-5, 10-5 victory over Roger Williams sophomore Zack Bussiere (Colchester, Conn./Bacon Academy) at No. 1 singles. Martin added a 6-2, 6-3 win over sophomore Kyle Bull (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) at No. 4 singles.

Junior Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) and sophomore Thomas Alaimo (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) combined for a tight 9-8 (7-5) victory at No. 2 doubles for Stonehill. Hyzak also posted a 6-3, 6-0 win over freshman Eric Laboissonniere (Cumberland, R.I./Cumberland) at No. 2 singles, while Alaimo won a back and forth 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win at No. 3 over junior Taylor Webster (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern).

Junior Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) and freshman Philip Klados (Lake Forest, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) teamed up for a 9-7 decision at No. 3 doubles. Klados followed with a 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 10-5 triumph over sophomore Ryan Swanson (West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) at No. 4 singles, with Armstrong adding a 6-3, 6-2 win over senior Jason Pacino (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) at No. 6.

Stonehill (13-4, 5-1 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday when it visits Wheaton College for a non-conference dual match at 4 p.m. The Skyhawks next home match is Saturday, April 6, when they host Le Moyne College for a Northeast-10 matchup at 11 a.m. Roger Williams (3-5, 1-0 CCC) hosts UMass Dartmouth on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
