Devanny nets first-collegiate goal in loss for Stonehill

WORCESTER, Mass. (September 25, 2012) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision to Assumption College on Tuesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

Senior forward Dom Mondi (Peabody, Mass./Peabody) netted a hat-trick to lead the Greyhounds offense. Junior midfielder Jose Paulo (Sao Paulo, Brazil/LaSalle Academy) tallied three assists while Michael Agbortoko (Beau, Cameroon/Southbridge) potted the other two goals for Assumption.

Freshman back Evan Devanny (Concord, N.H./Concord) recorded his first-career goal for Stonehill in the 54th minute on a feed from sophomore Ben Zandonella (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor). After Zandonella serviced a free kick from about 35-yards into the box, Devanny one-touched the ball and fired it home to cut into the deficit at 4-1.

Mondi opened up the scoring at the 20:51 mark with a header off of a Paulo corner kick for a 1-0 lead for the Greyhounds. Mondi quickly made it 2-0 scoring his second goal in the 23rd minute as he rolled a shot with his left foot into the right corner of the net, his fifth of the season.

The senior forward completed his hat-trick in the second half (50:58) on a beautiful feed from Paulo inside the box again with his left foot making it 4-0 at the time.

Skyhawks freshman goalkeeper Luke Besse (Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional) made three saves in his first-ever start.
