McWilliams deposits game-winner at 105:45
EASTON, Mass. (October 22, 2011) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team defeated The College of Saint Rose, 1-0, in double overtime on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action at Skyhawk Field on Senior Day.
Prior to the game, seniors Christopher Agan (Niskayuna, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy), Mark Bolster (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett), Jordan Brown (Sheridan, Wyo./The Prout School), Kevin Conti (Cohoes, N.Y./Shaker), Ross McWilliams (Kingston, R.I./South Kingstown) and Michael White (Lisbon, N.H./Lisbon Regional) were all honored for their contributions towards the Stonehill men's soccer program over their four-year careers.
McWilliams made his Senior Day a memorable one netting the game-winner at 105:45 of the contest, his third game-winning marker of the season, to lift the Skyhawks to 9-7-0 overall and 6-5-0 in NE-10 play.
Junior midfielder Anthony Campagnano (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) initiated the game-winning goal playing a cross to teammate Kevin Gilmartin (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock) who fed McWilliams with a one-touch through ball into the box for his fifth goal of the season past Golden Knights goalkeeper Patrik Ohlsson (Sodertalje, Sweden/Igelstavikens Gym.).
Ohlsson kept Saint Rose in the contest making 11 saves total including six in the first half.
Stonehill freshman goalkeeper Adam Colella (Wilmington, Mass./St. John's Prep.) turned away three shots in the game to record his fourth clean sheet of the season and improve his record to 8-5-0 this fall.
The Skyhawks outshot the Golden Knights, 27-6, and won the corners matchup, 9-3.
Stonehill, winners of four out of its last five, travels to Saint Anselm for a NE-10 matchup on Tuesday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. Saint Rose (1-15-0, 0-12-0 NE-10) hosts Merrimack in NE-10 play at 4 p.m. on Friday, October 28.
