Borges and Greene named All-Conference, with four others earning All-Rookie recognition

EASTON, Mass. (February 27, 2013) – Six members of the Stonehill Skyhawks ice hockey team earned Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) postseason awards, it was announced by the league office Wednesday.

Senior captain Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass./Williston Northampton), sophomore defenseman Brendan Greene (Weymouth, Mass./Catholic Memorial) and freshmen Travis Army (Englewood, Colo./Worcester Academy), Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining), Dan Graham (Billerica, Mass./Williston Northampton), and Matthew Palella (Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy) all earned NE-10 postseason recognition.

Borges was named to the NE-10 All-Conference First Team for his outstanding performance this season. It is the first time Borges has earned All-Conference recognition in his career, previously the forward earned All-Rookie team honors following the 2009-10 season. This marks the second year in a row that a forward has been named an All-Conference First Team selection, as Pat Greene earned the honor last season.

Borges led the league in scoring with 37 points on the year. The senior forward collected 15 goals and 22 assists which put his career total at 29 goals and 58 assists for 87 points. Borges recorded at least one point in 18 of 26 games this year and registered multiple points in 11 of those contests. The Joe Concannon Award Semifinalist notched two separate four game scoring streaks. In the four games from November 8th through November 17th Borges scored four goals and dished out six assists, the Skyhawks went 3-1-0 in that span.

Greene was named to the All-Conference Second Team this season. The award is the first for the sophomore defenseman who helped the Skyhawks rank first in offensive production among all NE-10 schools.

Greene led all NE-10 defensemen in scoring with five goals and 13 assists for 18 points. The sophomore defenseman recorded multi-point games five times on the year, highlighted by his two goal performance in Stonehill's 6-0 victory over Assumption late in the year. He also registered an assist in the Skyhawks' NE-10 Tournament Semifinal loss to Saint Anselm.

Army earns NE-10 All-Rookie honors following a solid freshman campaign. The defenseman notched 10 points (all assists) in his first season with the Skyhawks. Army ranked eighth among NE-10 defensemen and 10th among all freshmen in scoring. The blue-liner posted back-to-back two assist games in the final two regular season contests against Assumption and Saint Anselm. Army was named NE-10 Player of the Week on December 18th following his two-assist performance in an overtime loss to Johnson & Wales.

Graham was also named to the NE-10 All-Rookie Team. The forward posted seven goals and four assists during his freshman campaign. Graham's eleven-point season was good for sixth place among NE-10 freshman. The first-year forward posted a five-game scoring streak earlier this season, highlighted by a two-goal performance in Stonehill's 4-3 overtime victory over Saint Michael's. Graham was awarded with NE-10 Rookie of the Week honors following a goal and an assist in the Skyhawks' 9-3 win over Assumption.

Dorgan is the third member of the Skyhawks' All-Rookie Team tandem. The first-year forward ranked third on the team in scoring with 26 points on seven goals and 16 assists. Dorgan ranked first in the NE-10 in freshman scoring and tied for ninth in overall scoring. The forward recorded a team-best 10-game scoring streak during the season that spanned from December 1st, until January 26th. He posted 13 points over that time, including three multi-point games.

Palella is the fourth and final freshman to earn All-Rookie honors. The freshman goaltender posted a 3-4-0 record including a 3-2-0 record in NE-10 competition. During conference games, Palella posted a 2.60 goals against average, which ranked second in the league. Palella also ranked third in save percentage in conference games, stopping .923 percent of all shots he faced.
