Four-goal second period propels Southern New Hampshire to victory.
Hookset, N.H. (January 26, 2013) - The Stonehill College Skyhawks squandered a 2-0 first period lead and fell to the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen January 26, in Hookset, N.H Saturday night.
Freshman Jim Gabrone (Boca Raton, Fla.) led the way for the Penmen, earning three points on two goals and an assist. Sophomore forward Zach Lubinski (Hudson, N.H.) also posted two goals for Southern New Hampshire, while Casey Goll (Winthrop, Mass.) pitched in with a goal of his own. The Penmen also got points from Charles Wisniewski (Strongsville, Ohio), Michael Rotondi (Winchester, Mass.), and Nick Riccio (Wilmington, Mass.) who all recorded assists.
Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) earned the victory for the Penmen, posting 25 saves on the night. Matthew Palella (Chicago, Ill.) posted 33 saves in the loss for the Skyhawks, recording double-digit saves in every period. SNHU outshot Stonehill 38-28 in a wild game.

Junior assistant captain Bryan Rooney (Canton, Mass.) collected three points for the Skyhawks. Rooney scored two goals and collected an assist on the evening, moving his point total to 24 on the year. Captain Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass.) extended his NE-10 leading point total to 30 with a second period goal. Sophomore Kevin Aufiero (Canton, Mass.) and Freshman Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, N.Y.) also added assists for Stonehill. Aufiero posted two assists with Dorgan registering one. With the assist, Dorgan extends his team-leading scoring streak to 10 games.
The Skyhawks jumped on the board just five minutes into the game when Rooney potted his 11th goal of the season, assisted by Aufiero. Stonehill extended their lead to 2-0 when Aufiero assisted Rooney's second of the night at 11:18 of the first.
The Penmen launched a quick comeback early in the second period. Goll started it off at 3:38 of the second when he scored his third goal of the season. Less than a minute later SNHU tied the game when Wisniewski set up Lubinki's second of the season at 4:24 of the period.
Southern New Hampshire captured the lead just 27 seconds later when Gabrione scored his sixth goal of the season, on assists from John Humphrey (Charlestown, Mass.) and Riccio. Followng two Penmen penalties, the Skyhawks committed a penalty of their own which gave SNHU a penalty shot at 7:57 of the second. Gabrione capitalized on the opportunity, netting the Penmen's fourth goal of the game.
Borges got one back for the Skyhawks on the power-play at 9:12. Dorgan and Rooney earned assists on the goal, which brought the score to 4-3. The Penmen would not be denied though, adding an insurance goal at 13:28 of the third and holding Stonehill scoreless in the final stanza.
Next up for Stonehill (9-11-0, 5-2-0 NE-10) is a date with UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, January 29 at the Stephan Hetland Memorial Ice Arena in New Bedford, Mass. Stonehill returns home to take on Franklin Pierce in a NE-10 tilt February 2 at the Foxboro Sports Center. Southern New Hampshire (4-12-2, 2-3-1 NE-10) will travel to Assumption College next to take on the Greyhounds February 2.
