Falcons shoot 53.8%, including 10-for-20 from deep, led by Richmond's 25

EASTON, Mass. (November 14, 2018) – Bentley University outscored Stonehill College by 15 points after halftime to claim an 84-71 victory in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball action on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium tonight.
Senior Ryan Richmond led a Bentley team that shot 55.6-percent from the floor, including 57.1% in the second half, and buried 10-of-20 three-pointers, with a game-high 25 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 4-for-6 from three, with four rebounds and five assists. Junior Chris Hudson added 19 points, six rebounds and two steals, while senior Zach Gilpin recorded 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-4 from deep, seven board and two assists. Sophomore Colton Lawrence rounded out the Falcons in double-figures with 12 points and five rebounds, while classmate Jordan Mello-Klein pulled down a team-high nine rebounds to go with eight points and six assists.
Dan Largey led a trio of Stonehill juniors in double-figures with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting, five rebounds and two steals. Will Moreton added 14 points, four boards and two assists, while Brandon Twitty totaled 13 points and four assists.
Stonehill led by as much as nine in the first half, but Bentley closed the half on a 13-5 run to pull within two at the intermission (40-38). Gilpin buried a three-pointer during the run, while Richmond also scored six and Hudson four for the Falcons. Moreton scored the first basket of the second half, but the Falcons grabbed its first lead since early in the opening half when Richmond followed a Lawrence three-pointer with a jumper of his own.

Sophomore Owen Chose answered with a triple at the other end for Stonehill, but Bentley followed that with six-straight to grab a four-point lead (49-45) with a fastbreak layup from Mello-Klein after four minutes. Stonehill closed within a point (55-54) on a Twitty layup with 11-minutes to play, but the Falcons used a 15-4 run to stake a ten-point lead (68-58) with six-minutes remaining. Gilpin scored five points, including a three-pointer, while Richmond buried a trey as well, for the Falcons during the stretch.
Stonehill was within seven (70-63) after a Largey basket with five minutes left, but got no closer as Bentley outscored the Skyhawks 7-2 over the next minute and a half to reclaim a 12-point cushion after two Hudson free-throws with 3:28 to play. Richmond and Gilpin each canned three-pointers down the stretch to seal the win for the Falcons.
Stonehill used an 11-0 run midway through the first half to turn a three-point deficit (17-14) after a Richmond triple with 13:23 to play into an eight-point lead after a jumper from freshman Andrew Sims with 9:16 on the clock. Sims also got the run with a jumper as well. Bentley pulled back within three (28-25) with another Richmond triple with 6:26 remaining, but the Skyhawks followed with six-straight points, to open their game-high nine-point lead (34-25) after a Sims basket with 4:27 to go in the half.
Stonehill (1-2, 0-1 NE10) is back in action on Saturday, when it visits Saint Michael's College for an NE10 clash at 3:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return to Merkert Gym in two weeks, when they host Merrimack College at 7:30 p.m. Bentley (3-0, 1-0 NE10) hosts Merrimack on Saturday at 1 p.m.
