Mawn hat trick fires Skyhawks to bounce back win

EASTON, Mass. (September 28, 2019) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 7 in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association, broke out on offense with a 6-2 triumph over Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.
Sophomore Emma Mawn notched her first career multi-goal game by netting a career-best three goals, while senior Samantha Day added a pair for her second career multi-goal performance to lead Stonehill to the win. Sophomore Olivia Cameron dished out a career-best two assists for the Skyhawks, who also got a goal from freshman Mackenzie Quigley.
Sophomores Katie Lammando and Abigail Campbell split the goalkeeping duties for Stonehill, with Lammando recording a first half save and each yielding one goal. Sophomore Grace Henderson finished with nine stops in the Pace cage.
Sophomore Danielle Merante and freshman Emily Korniak each netted goals for Pace, which scored on two of its three shots in the game.
Day gave Stonehill a quick lead when she tipped in a pass from the right side by freshman Andrea Caradonna for her first goal of the season just 1:33 into the contest. Quigley doubled the Skyhawks lead just four minutes later as she one-timed a cross form the right by Cameron into the cage for her first collegiate goal at 5:36.

Mawn added a pair of quick goals in the second quarter after having an initial goal waived off. She scored her first of the day 3:19 into the second with a one-time on the far post off a pass from the right side by Cameron. Mawn followed that up 2:15 later when she directed a loose ball off a defender into the goal at 20:34.
Pace got on the scoreboard during its first scoring chance of the game when freshman Lauren Rabinowitz followed her own rebound and slid a pass at the near post to Korniak, who had charged in behind Lammando, for her first collegiate goal with 1:15 to play in the first half.
Mawn completed her hat trick 7:05 into the second half, driving a loose ball in front of the goal into the left side of the cage for her fourth goal of the season at 37:05. Pace pulled back within three goals again, when Merante scored her third of the year off a pass from the right side by sophomore Chloe Mayhew 1:14 into the fourth quarter. However, Day capped the scoring less than five minutes later with her second of the afternoon off a rebound at 51:07.
Stonehill (4-3, 4-1 NE10) returns to action on Tuesday, when it visits Molloy College for an NE10 matchup at 4 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Wednesday, October 9, to host fourth-ranked Saint Anselm College for their Purple and White Game at W.B. Mason Stadium at 3:30 p.m. Pace (1-5, 1-4 NE10) hosts ninth-ranked Adelphi University on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
