Nelson's fourth career overtime winner lifts Skyhawks to victory
Nelson's overtime goal is her fourth overtime gamewinner in the last two seasons (first this year). She was assisted by freshman Jennifer Foley (Holden, Mass./Notre Dame Academy). Sophomore Devin Ingersoll (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) also scored a goal for Stonehill on the afternoon.
Freshman Elizabeth Genovese (Street, Md./North Harford) preserved the win with one second half save in goal for Stonehill. Freshmen Jackie Chisholm (New Braintree, Mass./Quabbin Regional) and Sarah Healey (Canton, Mass./Canton) split the goaltending duties for Saint Michael's, with Chisholm stopping four shots in the first half and Healey recording six saves over the final 35:31. Stonehill posted a 17-5 advantage for shots in the match, including 11-3 after halftime, and held a 9-3 edge in penalty corners.
Freshman Hannah Beardsley (Essex, Mass./Manchester Essex Regional) scored the lone Saint Michael's goal with an unassisted strike at 51:18.
Ingersoll opened the scoring 7:43 into overtime when she drilled her third goal of the season off a corner, assisted by juniors Jessica Laurendeau (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) and Brittany Ford (Augusta, Maine/Cony).
Stonehill (4-5, 0-2 NE-10) is right back on the field tomorrow when it hosts Lindenwood University for a non-conference matchup at W.B. Mason Stadium at 1 p.m. Saint Michael's (2-8, 1-1 NE-10) visits American International College on Saturday, October 1, at 1 p.m.
