Cabral Qualifies for IHSA National Championships

West Bridgewater, Mass., native is reserve champion at Zone 1 Championships

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (April 12, 2011) – Stonehill College senior Diana Cabral (West Bridgewater, Mass./West Bridgewater) has qualified for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championships next month after her performance at the IHSA Zone 1 Championships, hosted by Mount Holyoke College this weekend.


Cabral led Stonehill's five Zone 1 qualifiers as she earned reserve champion honors for novice equitation over fences on Saturday. It marks the first time she has earned a trip to the national championships and she will be the Skyhawks lone representative next month when the championships are held at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky., May 5-8.

Senior co-captain Kayla Schneider (Vernon, Conn./Rockville) placed seventh in open fences at the Zone 1 Championships. Junior Rebecca Rossi (Cranston, R.I./Bay View Academy) placed fourth in novice equitation on the flat, while senior Alisha Wielgsozinski (Amherst, N.H./Brewster Academy) took fourth in walk-trot-canter. Senior co-captain Kate Perez (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire Regional) rounded out the Skyhawks participants at the Zone championships with her eighth place finish in novice flat.
