Tom Farmer, a native of Akron, Ohio, joins the Stonehill baseball staff in fall 2017 and is entering his first season as an assistant coach. Coach Farmer will bring his knowledge and experience as a pitching coach to the Skyhawk’s roster.
Farmer was a four-year starter for the NCAA Division I Baseball program at University of Akron, where he earned both his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration, International Business in 2008, and his MBA with a concentration in Finance in 2009. Now, Farmer continues to play an active role with his alma mater as a member of the University of Akron Baseball Alumni, an organization which he co-founded and continues to organize and host events in support of the UA Baseball program.
During Farmer’s tenure at the University of Akron he served as team captain from 2008-09 and participated in the Great Lakes League, Cape Cod League, and the NECBL. In 2006, Farmer was named Cape League All-Star as well as Bourne Braves Pitcher of the Year. Following his completion of college baseball, Farmer was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 20th Round of the 2007 MLB Draft and in the 47th Round of 2008 MLB Draft.
Aside from his playing experience, Coach Farmer has held various coaching positions. Beginning as a camp counselor for the Sandwich Community School, which focused on helping young kids learn the game of baseball, Farmer then moved on to become the Berea High School Varsity Assistant Coach, Bridgewater Hitmen Coach, and Team Mizuno AAU pitching coach.
Previous to joining the Skyhawk’s Baseball staff, Farmer served as Pitching Coach for NCAA Division III Massachusetts Maritime Academy, where he led the Buccaneers to their first conference regular season championship in school history in 2015, and their first tournament win and conference tournament runner up accolade in school history in 2016.
Famer is currently a Financial Advisor and College Unit Director for Northwestern Mutual, where he resides in Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts.
