WALTHAM, Mass.-- Senior Steve Gath (Reading, Mass.) rapped out three hits, while sophomore Kevin Vona (Belmont, Mass.) added a pair of doubles and drove in two runs to lead Bentley to a 6-3 Northeast-10 Conference baseball victory over Stonehill Thursday afternoon at DeFelice Field.

The host Falcons (6-15, 2-2 Northeast-10) overcame an early 1-0 deficit with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on a Gath RBI single that was followed by a run-scoring triple off the bat of freshman Garrett Stenhouse (Warwick, R.I.), and Bentley extended its lead to 6-1 with a run in the fourth on Vona's RBI double and three more tallies in the fifth on a pair of RBI singles by senior Bob Savoy (Norwell, Mass.) and Charlie Pagliarulo (Medford, Mass.) along with a bases-loaded walk to Vona. The visiting Skyhawks (7-11, 1-5 Northeast-10) closed back to within 6-3 in the sixth on an RBI triple by senior Blake Marston (Concord, N.H.) and an RBI groundout by junior Ryan Halloran (Tyngsboro, Mass.), but those would prove to be the final two runs of the game, as Stonehill threatened in both the seventh and ninth innings but hit into a pair of double plays in stranding 11.

Stenhouse, Savoy and senior Tim Denehy (Norwood, Mass.) all chipped in with a pair of hits as part of a 15-hit Bentley attack, as graduate student Brian Fioretti (Huntington, N.Y.) allowed four hits and three runs while fanning nine over 6 1/3 innings to improve to 3-3 on the mound for the Falcons. Sophomore Jarrod Marchesi (Peabody, Mass.) induced a pair of double-play balls over the final 2 2/3 innings of work to pick up his first save for the hosts.

Seniors Tom Aldrich (New Canaan, Conn.), Adam Pardo (Hanover, Mass.) and Max Vigliotti (Stamford, Conn.), along with junior Matt Orr (Wilton, Conn.) and sophomore Dave Migani (Amity, Conn.), joined Marston in recording hits in the setback for Stonehill, as sophomore Matt Giusti (Hopkinton, Mass.) struck out three in 4 2/3 innings of work on the mound for the Skyhawks in falling to 1-3 on the spring.

Stonehill heads to North Andover, Mass. on Saturday afternoon for a Northeast-10 doubleheader with Merrimack that begins at Noon, while Bentley hosts Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast-10 outing on Friday afternoon at DeFelice Field at 3:30 p.m.
