May 10, 2003 - Senior Erin Acone registered six goals in the Stonehill Women's Lacrosse 14-13 win over LIU-C.W. Post in the NCAA Division II Championship Semi-Finals.  Acone graduated with a College-best 227 goals scored.


Field Hockey

Kerri Sullivan

Senior All-America Kelly Latendresse (Sidney, Maine) netted a goal and a pair of assists to lead Stonehill to a season-opening 3-1 non-league victory over Mansfield (Pa.) last Saturday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium, as Head Coach Pam Arpe's squad scored three times in a nine-minute span early after intermission.  Sophomore Kerri Sullivan (Goffstown, N.H.) evened matters for the hosts in the 44th minute, and junior Kara Brady (Eastham, Mass.) added an insurance tally in the 53rd minute to close out the scoring.  Junior Dani Ryder (Gloucester, Mass.) made a pair of saves to pick up the win in goal for the Skyhawks, who have now won 13 straight regular season contests dating back to last September.  Stonehill opens Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday afternoon by heading to Manchester, N.H. to take on Saint Anselm in a league match that begins at 4:00 p.m.

Men's Soccer

Stonehill opened the 2006 campaign with a pair of home victories last week, as Head Coach Jose Gomes's squad notched a 4-0 non-league triumph over Molloy last Sunday at Skyhawk Field before posting a 3-0 Northeast-10 Conference home win over Saint Rose last Wednesday afternoon.  Senior Joseph Sousa (Shelton, Conn.) and sophomore Rick Carvalho (Hollis, N.H.) each netted a pair of goals in the Molloy victory, while sophomore Daniel Holley (Manorville, N.Y.) scored a pair of goals and added an assist for a career-high five point performance against Saint Rose.  Freshman Shaun Keeley (Woburn, Mass.) collected a goal and two helpers in Wednesday's win over the Golden Knights, as sophomore Danny Kerl (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) made a combined 13 saves to record the shutout victories in goal.  Stonehill, 2-1 overall and 1-1 in Northeast-10 play following Saturday's 4-0 setback at LeMoyne, returns home on Wednesday afternoon to take on Merrimack in a Northeast-10 outing at Skyhawk Field that begins at 4:00 p.m.

Stonehill opened its 2006 schedule with a pair of double overtime Northeast-10 Conference outings last week, as Head Coach Rolando Lopes's Skyhawks battled 13th-ranked Assumption to a scoreless tie last Tuesday before dropping a heartbreaking 3-2 league decision to Saint Rose last Saturday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.  Junior Alex Eckhardt (Marshfield, Mass.) made a combined 19 saves in net for Stonehill in the two contests, including eight stops to pick up the shutout against Assumption, while juniors Lauren Boyd (Sandwich, Mass.) and Ashley Bourne (Brockton, Mass.) netted the markers against Saint Rose, with Bourne adding an assist on Boyd's tally.  Stonehill, 0-1-1 both overall and in conference action in the early going, hits the road for the first time on Wednesday afternoon when the Skyhawks head to Smithfield, R.I. to take on Bryant in a Northeast-10 outing that begins at 3:00 p.m.

Stonehill opened its third season under Head Coach Chris Woods last Friday in the first-ever night contest played on campus, as the Skyhawks dropped a 16-3 Northeast-10 Conference decision before a sellout crowd of 2,400 at W.B. Mason Stadium.  Junior Sean Donahue (Plymouth, N.H.) accounted for the lone points of the night for the hosts with a 26-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter, as sophomore Cruz Parsons (Signal Hill, Calif.) threw for 51 yards, including four receptions for 29 yards by senior Paul Stone (Somerville, Mass.).  Senior Cliff Mason II (Santa Ana, Calif.) added 29 rushing yards for Stonehill, which was paced defensively by junior Tony Camarota's (Hudson, Mass.) career-high eight total tackles.  Stonehill will play its second straight "Friday Night Lights" contest on Friday evening when the Skyhawks entertain Assumption in a Northeast-10 outing at W.B. Mason Stadium that kicks off at 7:00 p.m.

Stonehill opened its 2006 slate with three non-league matches over the weekend at the C.W. Post Invitational in Brookville, N.Y., as Head Coach Brad Alexander's Skyhawks dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to Dowling and New York Tech before falling by a 3-1 final to host C.W. Post.  Sophomore Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass.) amassed 31 kills, including 15 kills (one off her career-high) against C.W. Post, on the weekend, while freshman Kristen Hordern (Swansea, Mass.) registered 72 set assists and 15 service aces, including 31 set assists against New York Tech.  Stonehill opens Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday evening when the Skyhawks play host to Franklin Pierce in a league match at Merkert Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Skyhawk Athletes Of The Week

Throughout the 2006-2007 academic year, Stonehill Athletics will award the honor of "Skyhawk Athlete of the Week" to a male and female student-athlete for their performances during the previous week's competition.  The inaugural accolades for the week of August 27-September 3 go to men's soccer sophomore standout Daniel Holley and two-time field hockey senior All-America Kelly Latendresse.  Holley, a native of Manorville, N.Y. and a graduate of Eastport South Manor High School, netted a pair of goals and added an assist for a career-high five points in Stonehill's 3-0 Northeast-10 Conference victory over Saint Rose at Skyhawk Field last Wednesday.  Holley's performance came as part of a two-victory week for Head Coach Jose Gomes's squad, who opened the 2006 campaign with a 4-0 non-league victory over Molloy on August 27th.  Latendresse, a native of Sidney, Maine and a graduate of Messalonskee High School, netted a goal and two assists for four points in Stonehill's season-opening 3-1 victory over Mansfield (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium.  Head Coach Pam Arpe's Skyhawks tallied all three goals after intermission and have now won 13 straight regular season matches dating back to last September.

For the third straight season, Skyhawk Football will be webcast over the official Athletics home page of Stonehill College, www.stonehillskyhawks.com.  A total of seven Skyhawk gridiron contests will be broadcast at no charge through our new broadcast partner, Stretch Internet of Gilbert, Ariz.  Charlie Bergeron, the voice of Skyhawk football and basketball broadcasts, returns for his ninth season at the microphone.  Additionally, Skyhawk Football will be available via video for all nine Northeast-10 Conference outings this season through the recently launched www.ne-10.tv, the official videocast page of the Northeast-10 Conference.  Stonehill football videocasts can be accessed for a nominal fee.
