October 4, 1993 - Women's soccer senior forward Anne O'Doherty tied a school record by nailing four goals in Stonehill's 5-2 victory over Bryant.  O'Doherty tied Lisa Cirillo's 1988 mark.  In addition to her four goals, Cirillo's single assist allowed her to retain the single-game points record.

Kelly Latendresse

Senior All-America Kelly Latendresse's (Sidney, Maine) second goal of the match 4:06 into overtime lifted ninth-ranked Stonehill to a 4-3 Northeast-10 Conference victory over ninth-ranked Saint Michael's on Saturday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium.  Head Coach Pam Arpe's Skyhawks battled back from a 2-0 halftime deficit with three goals in a 17-minute span in the second half, as Latendresse's first marker of the day was sandwiched by a pair of tallies off the sticks of juniors Kara Brady (Eastham, Mass.) and Colleen McLaughlin (Methuen, Mass.).  After the Purple Knights tied the score and forced the extra session, Latendresse converted feeds from sophomore Kerri Sullivan (Goffstown, N.H.) and junior Aly Boulis (Lincoln, R.I.) off a penalty corner for the game-winner.  Junior Ashley Freeman (White River Junction, Vt.) added a pair of assists for the winners, who also received single helpers off the sticks of junior Caitlin Gleason (New Boston, N.H.) and freshman Jackie Ladino (Dartmouth, Mass.).  Junior Dani Ryder (Gloucester, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with a six-save effort for Stonehill, which improves to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in Northeast-10 play.  The Skyhawks host third-ranked and defending NCAA national champion UMass Lowell in a Northeast-10 clash on Wednesday evening at W.B. Mason Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the first meeting between the teams since last year's NCAA national semi-finals.

Stonehill ran its unbeaten streak to four with a win and a tie last week, as Head Coach Rolando Lopes's Skyhawks notched a 2-0 non-league victory over New York Tech last Tuesday afternoon in Plainview, N.Y. before battling Saint Michael's to a 1-1 Northeast-10 Conference double overtime draw on Saturday afternoon in Colchester, Vt.  Freshman Erin Bazinet (Charlton, Mass.) netted both goals in the New York Teck victory on assists from juniors Caragh McManus (Spofford, N.H.) and Meghan O'Brien (Stow, Mass.), while junior Alex Eckhardt (Marshfield, Mass.) made a pair of saves in 58-plus minutes of action to record her seventh career shutout.  Junior Lauren Boyd (Sandwich, Mass.) netted the lone Stonehill marker on a feed from sophomore Janine Connors (Holliston, Mass.) in Saturday's tie at Saint Michael's, as Eckhardt made one stop in net for the visitors.  Stonehill takes a 3-1-2 overall mark and a 2-1-2 Northeast-10 slate into a league showdown on Wednesday afternoon when the Skyhawks host Franklin Pierce at Skyhawk Field beginning at 4:00 p.m.

Men's Soccer

Stonehill posted a pair of non-league victories over the weekend at the two-day Merrimack Invitational in North Andover, Mass., as Head Coach Jose Gomes's Skyhawks notched a 1-0 first round triumph over New Haven on Saturday afternoon before collecting a 2-0 win over Concordia (N.Y.) in second round play on Sunday afternoon.  Senior Joseph Sousa's (Shelton, Conn.) second half penalty conversion provided the margin of victory against New Haven, as freshman Brian Guerrini (Glastonbury, Conn.) made eight saves to pick up his second collegiate victory and first career shutout.  Sophomores Daniel Holley (Manorville, N.Y.) and Rick Carvalho (Hollis, N.H.) each found the back of the net in the first half of Sunday's win over Concordia, as sophomore Danny Kerl (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) registered a pair of saves to notch his third shutout triumph of the year.  Stonehill, which has already surpassed its entire victory total of last season in improving to 5-3 on the fall, heads to New Haven, Conn. on Wednesday evening to take on ninth-ranked Southern Connecticut in a Northeast-10 Conference match that begins at 7:00 p.m.

J.J. Niamkey

Another solid effort by the Skyhawk defensive unit wasn't enough as Stonehill dropped a tough 7-0 Northeast-10 Conference decision to Pace on Saturday afternoon at Finnerty Field in Pleasantville, N.Y.  Sophomore quarterback Jon Kaloyanides (Cranston, R.I.) threw for a career-high 202 yards in the setback for Head Coach Chris Woods's Skyhawks, while sophomore George Whetstone (Westwood, Mass.) and freshman Michael Johnson (Portland, Ore.) combined for 15 total tackles on the day.  Junior J.J. Niamkey (Quincy, Mass.) recorded his second interception of the season for the visitors, who also received a fumble recovery from sophomore Alex Leviner (Lynn, Mass.).  Stonehill drops to 0-3 both overall and in Northeast-10 play with the decision, and the Skyhawks return home on Saturday, September 23rd to host 17th-ranked C.W. Post in a Northeast-10 match-up at W.B. Mason Stadium that kicks off at Noon.

Brad Alexander
Sophomore Jackie Foster (Arlington, Mass.) recorded 16 kills as Stonehill presented Head Coach Brad Alexander with his 100th career victory in the Skyhawks' 3-1 non-league triumph over Molloy on Saturday afternoon at Merkert Gymansium.  Sophomore Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass.) added 15 kills and 14 digs in the win for the hosts, which came by game scores of 26-30, 30-11, 30-19 and 30-26, while sophomore Heidi Woerner (North Kingstown, R.I.) chipped in with 11 kills.  Junior Rebekah Saunders (Gilford, N.H.) added 10 kills and 13 digs for Stonehill, which also received 46 set assists and 12 digs from freshman Kristen Hordern (Swansea, Mass.).  The Skyhawks, now 1-8 on the season after splitting Saturday's non-league tri-match, host American International in a Northeast-10 Conference outing on Wednesday evening at Merkert Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Men's Cross Country

Stonehill, ranked 10th in the USTFCAAA Division II national poll for the second straight week, posted its second straight third place team finish on Saturday afternoon as the UMass Dartmouth Invitational in North Dartmouth, Mass., as Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks bested their nearest Division II competitor, Bryant, by nine places in the team standings.  Senior Tim Catoggio (Bradford, Mass.) led a pack of Stonehill runners by placing 24th with a time of 26:31 over the five mile layout, while juniors Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.), All-America David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) and Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass.) followed right behind in 25th, 26th and 27th places, respectively.  Junior Kyle Sousa (North Dighton, Mass.) closed out the Skyhawk scoring by placing 38th individually, as Stonehill is set to return to action on Saturday, September 23rd at the Harrier Classic at Franklin Park in Boston beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Women's Cross Country
Kelly Chaisson

Stonehill continued its solid start to the 2006 campaign on Saturday afternoon by placing seventh of 33 teams competing at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational in North Dartmouth, Mass.  Senior Jill Allen (Peabody, Mass.) led the way for Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks by placing 31st individually with a time of 19:31 over the 3.1 mile layout, while junior Lesley Clunie (Newburyport, Mass.) and freshman Andrea Topalis (Simsbury, Conn.) followed in 39th and 46th places, respectively.  Sophomore Jenny Gardynski (Everett, Mass.) as well as seniors Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) and Kelly Chaisson (Walpole, Mass.) completed the scoring for Stonehill, which bested defending Northeast-10 Conference and NCAA Northeast Regional champion UMass Lowell by three points in the final team standings.  The Skyhawks return to action on Saturday, September 23rd by participating in the Harrier Classic at Franklin Park in Boston beginning at 11:00 a.m.
