April 9, 2005 - The Stonehill Equestrian team finished third during competition at the 2005 IHSA Zone 1 Championships.  Despite being eliminated in team competition, senior Kelsey Amedeo's and junior Kim Foley's performance earned them a chance to represented Stonehill in their individual events at the IHSA Nationals.


Field Hockey

Stonehill ran its regular season winning streak to 15 straight contests dating back to last September with a pair of triumphs last week, as Head Coach Pam Arpe's squad opened Northeast-10 Conference play with a 7-0 victory over Saint Anselm last Wednesday afternoon in Manchester, N.H.  Junior Caitlin Gleason (New Boston, N.H.) set school single-match records for goals and points with four tallies and an assist for nine points for the Skyhawks, while sophomore Kerri Sullivan (Goffstown, N.H.) added a goal and an assist for the visitors, who also received tallies off the sticks of junior Kara Brady (Eastham, Mass.) and sophomore Laura Nimon (Gardiner, Maine).  Junior Aly Boulis (Lincoln, R.I.) collected a pair of goals in Stonehill's 4-3 non-league win over Millersville on Sunday afternoon in Millersville, Pa., as Sullivan chipped in with a goal and assist as well for the visitors, who also received a marker from senior All-America Kelly Latendresse (Sidney, Maine).  Junior Dani Ryder (Gloucester, Mass.) picked up both wins in goal on the week for Stonehill, which takes a 3-0 overall mark and a 1-0 Northeast-10 slate into a conference showdown on Thursday evening with rival Bentley in Waltham, Mass. that begins at 7:00 p.m.

Women's Soccer

A pair of high scoring affairs resulted in two Stonehill victories last week, as Head Coach Rolando Lopes's Skyhawks posted a 5-2 Northeast-10 Conference triumph over Bryant last Wednesday afternoon in Smithfield, R.I. before collecting a 4-1 league win over LeMoyne on Saturday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.  Junior Lauren Boyd (Sandwich, Mass.) enjoyed a record-setting performance in Wednesday's win at Bryant, as she tied the school single-match record with four goals and added an assist to finish with a school record nine points, while sophomore Kelley Harper (Liverpool, N.Y.) chipped in with a goal and two assists for the visitors.  Junior Ashley Bourne's (Brockton, Mass.) first career hat trick helped lead the way in Saturday's win over LeMoyne, as freshman Erin Bazinet (Charlton, Mass.) notched a goal and an assist as well for Stonehill.  Sophomore Marissa Bramwell (Norton, Mass.) picked up both victories in net with a combined seven saves on the week for the Skyhawks, who take a 2-1-1 overall mark into a non-league match on Tuesday afternoon against New York Tech that will be played in Old Westbury, N.Y. beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Men's Soccer

Derek Hebert


Senior Derek Hebert's (Rockland, Mass.) goal with just under six minutes remaining capped a three-goal second half comeback that lifted Stonehill to a 3-2 Northeast-10 Conference victory over Merrimack last Wednesday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.  Junior Joey Silva (Brockton, Mass.) and sophomore Rick Carvalho (Hollis, N.H.) netted markers to tie the match for Head Coach Jose Gomes's squad, setting up Hebert's late heroics.  Senior Joseph Sousa (Shelton, Conn.) assisted on all three tallies for the Skyhawks, as freshman Brian Guerrini (Glastonbury, Conn.) shined in his first collegiate start for Stonehill with a 10-save effort, including a key penalty kick save with 15 minutes remaining in the contest that enabled the hosts to post their first win over the Warriors in five years.  Silva netted the lone Skyhawk goal in Saturday's tough 2-1 double overtime Northeast-10 setback to rival Bentley at Skyhawk Field, as Guerrini was stellar in goal once again for the hosts with a 12-save effort.  Stonehill, 3-2 overall and 2-2 in Northeast-10 play, hosts Southern New Hampshire in a league outing on Wednesday afternoon at Skyhawk Field that begins at 4:00 p.m.

Football

Jabari Prince

Junior Sean Donahue (Plymouth, N.H.) booted a career-best 40-yard field goal, but it wasn't enough as Stonehill dropped a 16-3 Northeast-10 Conference decision to Assumption before a crowd of over 2,000 last Friday evening at W.B. Mason Stadium.  Senior Cliff Mason II (Santa Ana, Calif.) rushed for 81 yards in the setback for Head Coach Chris Woods's Skyhawks, while sophomore quarterback Jon Kaloyanides (Cranston, R.I.) threw for 92 yards in his first collegiate start.  Junior Jabari Prince paced the hosts defensively with 11 total tackles, including one sack and three tackles for losses of nine yards, as he also blocked a field goal and recovered a fumble.  Stonehill, which falls to 0-2 both overall and in Northeast-10 play with the decision, hits the road for the first time this season on Saturday afternoon when the Skyhawks travel to Pleasantville, N.Y. to take on Pace in a Northeast-10 outing that kicks off at 1:00 p.m.

Stonehill opened both its home and Northeast-10 Conference slates last Wednesday evening by dropping a 3-0 league decision to Franklin Pierce by game scores of 30-19, 30-21 and 30-28 at Merkert Gymnasium.  Sophomore Heidi Woerner (North Kingstown, R.I.) notched 10 kills in the setback for Head Coach Brad Alexander's Skyhawks, while junior Rebekah Saunders (Gilford, N.H.) added eight kills and 14 digs for the hosts, who also received six kills each from sophomores Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass.) and Jackie Foster (Arlington, Mass.).  Freshman Kristen Hordern (Swansea, Mass.) chipped in with six kills and 21 set assists for Stonehill, which takes an 0-4 overall mark and an 0-1 Northeast-10 slate into a league match on Tuesday evening with Merrimack in North Andover, Mass. that begins at 7:00 p.m.

Men's Cross Country

Stonehill, ranked 10th in the USTFCAAA Division II national pre-season poll, opened defense of its Northeast-10 Conference and NCAA Northeast Regional crowns by placing third among 30 teams at the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Conn.  Junior Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass.) paced Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks with a seventh place individual finish, as he covered the 8K layout in a time of 25:34.  Junior All-America David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) was next in 11th place with a time of 25:40, while fellow junior Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.) was 17th overall with a time of 25:47.  Senior Tim Catoggio (Bradford, Mass.) and sophomore Matt Meagher (Mansfield, Mass.) closed out the Stonehill scoring by placing 25th and 35th, respectively, with times of 26:07 and 26:25, as the Skyhawks finished behind only winner Yale and runner-up Southern Connecticut in the team standings.  Stonehill heads to North Dartmouth, Mass. on Saturday morning to compete in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational that begins at 11:30 a.m.

Women's Cross Country

Stonehill, seeking its sixth Northeast-10 Conference and NCAA Northeast Regional titles in seven seasons, opened the 2006 campaign with a third place team finish at the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Conn.  Seniors Kelly Chaisson (Walpole, Mass.) and Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, for Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks, as they covered the 5K layout in times of 19:00 and 19:02.  Senior Jill Allen (Peabody, Mass.) and freshman Andrea Topalis (Simsbury, Conn.) were next in 23rd and 27th place, respectively, with times of 19:33 and 19:38, while junior Lesley Clunie (Newburyport, Mass.) closed out the scoring by finishing 38th with a time of 19:48, as Stonehill finished behind only winner Tufts and runner-up College of New Jersey in the team standings.  The Skyhawks travel to North Dartmouth, Mass. on Saturday morning to compete in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational that begins at 10:30 a.m.
