Tournament Most Valuable Player Michelle Kelly (Mendham, N.J.)
netted a hat trick on offense and caused a pair of key turnovers on
defense in leading top-seeded and second-ranked Stonehill to its eighth
straight Northeast-10 Conference tournament title Sunday afternoon with
a 9-7 victory over third-seeded Bentley in the 2007 championship match
at W.B. Mason Stadium. Freshman Liza
Gross (Loudonville, N.Y.) added two goals and two assists in the
championship contest win for Head Coach Michael Daly's Skyhawks, which also
received a goal and three assists off the stick of senior Tracey Hoffman (Nashua, N.H.) and
two markers from sophomore Mary
Maloney (Great River, N.Y.). After the Falcons had closed
to within a goal in the closing minutes, senior Emily Wetmore (Horseheads, N.Y.)
caused a turnover to give Stonehill possession with under a minute to
go that set up Maloney's insurance marker in the final seconds.
Kelly finished with seven goals and three assists for 10 points during
the tournament, as the 2007 Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year
notched four goals and three assists in Saturday's 18-7 semi-final
round victory over Merrimack, while junior Amanda McGeachey (Saco, Maine)
picked up both wins in goal for the Skyhawks, including 10 saves in the
triumph over Merrimack. Stonehill will take an 18-1 overall mark
into the 2007 NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Championships this
weekend in Salem, Va., as the Skyhawks will square off with top-ranked
C.W. Post in the North Region national semi-final on Saturday afternoon
beginning at 2:00 p.m. EDT.

Stonehill extended its winning
streak to six straight with three very well-pitched Northeast-10
Conference home victories last week, as Head Coach Patrick Boen's Skyhawks posted a 2-0
triumph over Southern New Hampshire last Wednesday before sweeping a
league twinbill from Assumption by identical 3-1 finals on Sunday
afternoon at Gorman Field. Sophomore Matt Giusti (Hopkinton, Mass.)
tossed a complete-game six-hitter and fanned six to pick up his second
shutout victory in Wednesday's win over Southern New Hampshire, as
senior Matt Vaughn (Bow, N.H.)
provided a key RBI triple in that contest at the plate. Senior Adam Pardo (Hanover, Mass.) rapped
out three hits and recorded five stolen bases in Sunday's sweep of
Assumption, as junior Mat Lindenmayer
(Penfield, N.Y.) improved to 6-2 on the mound with 8 1/3 innings of
work that included five strikeouts and also featured Vaughn's fourth
save of the spring. Senior Chris
Herrmann (Chelmsford, Mass.) continued his late season dominance
in the nightcap for Stonehill, as he went the distance in allowing an
unearned run and tying his career-high with 13 strikeouts. The
Skyhawks have now reached the 20-win plateau in all 10 of Boen's
seasons at the helm, as Stonehill takes a 21-23 overall mark (after
finishing 13-17 in Northeast-10 play) into its season finale on
Wednesday afternoon against Rollins at Bentley's DeFelice Field in
Waltham, Mass. beginning at 3:00 p.m. EDT.

Stonehill made its second
straight appearance in the NCAA Division II Championships on Thursday
afternoon, as Head Coach Peter Miller's
Skyhawks wrapped the 2007 season in dropping a 5-0 decision to eventual
regional champion Concordia (N.Y.) in first round play on the Stonehill
Courts. Stonehill finished the season at 15-6 for the second
straight spring, as the Skyhawks have earned three NCAA tournament
berths in the last four seasons. In Miller's 27th season at the
helm of his alma mater this spring, Stonehill tied the school
single-season mark for overall victories and finished as the
Northeast-10 Conference regular season runner-up for the second
straight season, as the Skyhawks have posted a 20-2 league slate over
the last two years. Stonehill also presented Miller with his
200th career victory when the Skyhawks bested Pace in the Northeast-10
quarterfinal round.

National Champions!
|
The Stonehill Department of
Athletics would like to offer congratulations to Head Coach Derek Jenesky and the Stonehill
Women's Rugby team on winning the Division III Intercollegiate National
Championship on April 29th in Philadelphia, Pa. Stonehill ran its
winning streak to 22 straight by defeating Bryn Mawr 37-5 in the
national semi-finals before knocking off the University of Pennsylvania
by a 46-0 final to claim the national crown. Melissa Moylan scored the first four
tries of the game in the national championship match-up with the
Quakers to lead the way for Stonehill, which has not dropped a contest
since September 2005. In six years as both the men's and women's
rugby coach at Stonehill, Coach Jenesky has three New England
championships, three regional crowns, two national runner-up titles and
his latest accolade, the 2007 Women's Intercollegiate national
championship. Congratulations once again to Stonehill Women's
Rugby on behalf of Skyhawk Athletics for this great achievement!
