May 11, 2003 - Stonehill College claimed their first Women's Lacrosse NCAA National Championship defeating Longwood, 9-8.  Freshman Erin Acone scored three times and added an assist.

Make it 62 straight Northeast-10 Conference victories for Stonehill after Saturday's 21-9 league triumph over Southern New Hampshire at Larkin Field in Manchester, N.H.  Junior All-America Kristin Darrell (West Islip, N.Y.) led the way once again for Head Coach Michael Daly's Skyhawks by notching her second 10-point performance of the spring with six goals and four assists for 10 points, while sophomore Michelle Kelly (Mendham, N.J.) added four goals for the winners, who netted 16 of the final 19 tallies of the match.  Junior Christa LaRocco (West Islip, N.Y.) and sophomore Michelle Salmon (East Islip, N.Y.) each added a hat trick and an assist for Stonehill, which also received a pair of goals and two assists from senior Tracey Hoffman (Nashua, N.H.) as well as two goals and an assist from freshman Liza Gross (Loudonville, N.Y.).  Junior Amanda McGeachey (Saco, Maine) made five saves to pick up her eighth win of the season in goal for the Skyhawks, who take an 8-0 overall mark and a 4-0 Northeast-10 slate into a conference outing with Bryant on Tuesday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium beginning at 3:30 p.m. EDT.

Tom Aldrich

Senior Tom Aldrich's (New Canaan, Conn.) two-out RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted Stonehill to a 6-5 nightcap victory over Saint Rose and a split of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader with the Golden Knights on Saturday afternoon at Gorman Field.  Aldrich drove in a pair of runs in the win for Head Coach Patrick Boen's Skyhawks, who also received two hits each off the bats of freshman Rob Von Stein (Trumbull, Conn.) and senior Blake Marston (Concord, N.H.), who picked up his second relief victory of the spring on the mound for the hosts.  Senior Adam Pardo (Hanover, Mass.) rapped out four hits as part of a 15-hit Stonehill attack in an 8-3 Northeast-10 triumph over American International on Thursday afternoon at Gorman Field, as sophomore Javier Guzman (San Juan, P.R.) added a pair of hits and two RBI while senior Matt Vaughn (Bow, N.H.) and junior Matt Orr (Wilton, Conn.) also collected two hits in support of sophomore Matt Giusti (Hopkinton, Mass.), who allowed four hits over 5 2/3 innings to pick up his second win of the season.  Fellow sophomore Justin Perry (Wilbraham, Mass.) pitched 3 1/3 scoreless frames to pick up his first save of the year in that contest for the Skyhawks, who take a 10-15 overall mark and a 4-9 Northeast-10 slate into Monday's rubber game of the three-game league weekend set with Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y. beginning at 3:00 p.m. EDT.

Kait Mendall


Freshman Kait Mendall (Middleboro, Mass.) scattered three hits and struck out three over six innings of work to pick up her second win of the season as Stonehill gained a split of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader with Saint Anselm in notching a 4-3 opening game triumph Saturday afternoon at Gartland Field.  Junior Caitlin Flanagan's (Cornwall, N.Y.) solo home run in the fourth gave Head Coach Danielle Delude's Skyhawks the lead for good in that outing, as juniors Lauren Polselli (Portsmouth, R.I.) and Stephanie Folan (Glen Cove, N.Y.), along with sophomore Meghan Sheehy (East Islip, N.Y.), also drove in runs in support of Mendall.  Flanagan, along with sophomores Yesenia Marrero (Brockton, Mass.) and Kate Brides (West Bridgewater, Mass.), each rapped out two hits as part of a 10-hit attack for Stonehill, which also received the first save of the spring from sophomore Katie Mottau (Woonsocket, R.I.) in relief.  The Skyhawks, now 4-12 overall and 3-3 in Northeast-10 play following the split, return to action on Monday afternoon by heading to Worcester, Mass. to take on Assumption in a league twinbill at 3:30 p.m. EDT.

Outdoor Track & Field

Brandon Beloin

Several individuals posted solid performances over the weekend for both Stonehill squads, as senior Brandon Beloin (Danielson, Conn.) led the way on the men's side for Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks at the Bryant Invitational in Smithfield, R.I. with a first place effort in the 400 meter hurdles (54.80) and was part of the winning 4 X 400 relay team's time of 3:23.80 in the event that also included seniors Dana Burbank (North Andover, Mass.) and Derek Hebert (Rockland, Mass.) along with junior Thomas Woods (Medfield, Mass.).  Junior David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) took top honors in the 1,500 meters (4:06.57) for Stonehill, which also received first place performances from sophomore Tyler Guilmette (East Longmeadow, Mass.) in both the long jump and triple jump as well as from freshman Joe D'Agostino (Canton, Mass.) in the high jump.  On the women's side, freshman Meghan Rocha (Nashua, N.H.) captured first place in the discus with a mark of 119 feet, 1 inch and set a school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 127 feet, while senior Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) took top honors in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.68.  Additionally, sophomore Torrey Price (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) set a school record by winning his heat in the 100 meters at the University of Texas Clyde Littlefield Relays in Austin, Tex. with a mark of 10.62 seconds that provisionally qualified him for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, as Price finished third in the championship college race in the event on Saturday.  Both Stonehill squads are set to compete at the UMass Lowell George Davis Invitational on Saturday morning in Lowell, Mass. beginning at 10:00 a.m. EDT.

Men's Tennis

Dustin Marshall
Stonehill competed against three of the top teams in NCAA East Regional play last week, as Head Coach Peter Miller's Skyhawks dropped a pair of 7-2 dual-match decisions to both Assumption and Dowling as well as a 9-0 non-league decision to defending regional champion Concordia (N.Y.) in Bronxville, N.Y.  Sophomore Dustin Marshall (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) won a pair of straight set decisions at number six singles on the week for Stonehill, which also received a three set win at number five singles from sophomore Will Herchel (Hampden, Mass.) against Assumtpion as well as an 8-4 victory at number three doubles from the tandem of senior Andy DeVita (Milford, Mass.) and freshman Mike Leone (Cataumet, Mass.) against Dowling.  The Skyhawks, 10-4 overall and 6-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play, host Merrimack in a league dual-match on Wednesday afternoon on the Stonehill Courts beginning at 3:00 p.m. EDT.

Women's Tennis

Lauren Rowinski

Stonehill dropped its lone contest of last week in falling by a 6-3 final to Bryant in a Northeast-10 Conference dual-match played last Thursday afternoon on the Stonehill Courts, as junior Allison Bleakney (Lewiston, Maine) and freshman Lauren Rowinski (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) each posted straight singles victories for Head Coach Pam Arpe's Skyhawks on the day.  Freshman Samantha Dircks (Stony Brook, N.Y.) also recorded a win in singles play in a re-match of last year's conference championship title match for Stonehill, which fell to 8-5 overall and 5-3 in Northeast-10 play with the setback.  The Skyhawks return to action on Tuesday afternoon when Stonehill heads to Worcester, Mass. for a Northeast-10 make-up dual-match with Assumption that begins at 3:30 p.m. EDT before returning home on Thursday afternoon to entertain Southern New Hampshire in a league outing on the Stonehill Courts beginning at 3:30 p.m. EDT.

Heather Marban

The 2006-2007 Stonehill season came to an end on Saturday afternoon, as Head Coach Sara DelVecchio's Skyhawks finished third of four teams competing at the 2007 IHSA Zone 1 Championships on the campus of Mount Holyoke in South Hadley, Mass.  Freshman Kelli-Ann Monroe (Swanzey, N.H.) was crowned as zone champion in the novice flat for Stonehill, which also received a pair of third place finishes from senior Heather Marban (Ridgefield, Conn.) in the intermediate flat and from sophomore Becca Clifford (Rehoboth, Mass.) in the novice fences, respectively.  The Skyhawks captured their second IHSA Regional Championship in three seasons under DelVecchio the previous weekend in besting both Wheaton and UMass Dartmouth in the final standings.
