June 1, 1982 - Stonehill's shortstop Bob Wooster played in the All-New England College All-Star Game, held at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, R.I.  Wooster, a senior, finished the season with a .376 average, two homeruns and 23 RBIs before being drafted by the Cleveland Indians.

Mary Maloney

Stonehill capped a perfect 5-0 road trip with a 15-3 Northeast-10 Conference victory over Saint Anselm on Sunday afternoon at Grappone Stadium in Manchester, N.H., as junior All-America Kristin Darrell (West Islip, N.Y.) and sophomore Mary Maloney (Great River, N.Y.) each had five goals and an assist in the triumph for Head Coach Michael Daly's Skyhawks.  Maloney, this week's Northeast-10 Player of the Week, added five points in Saturday's 24-4 Northeast-10 victory over Southern Connecticut at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn., as sophomore Michelle Kelly (Mendham, N.J.) netted four goals and three assists in a match that saw a school-record 13 different players score at least one goal on the day.  Kelly added five goals in last Thursday's 23-5 Northeast-10 victory over Assumption at Multi-Sport Stadium in Worcester, Mass., while junior Amanda McGeachey (Saco, Maine) earned the nod as the Northeast-10 Goalie of the Week after posting three wins and a 4.00 goals against average.  Stonehill, winners of 66 straight Northeast-10 matches, takes a perfect 14-0 overall mark and an 8-0 league slate into a conference outing with American International on Tuesday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium beginning at 4:00 p.m. EDT.  The Skyhawks, ranked third nationally in Division II, will then host top-ranked C.W. Post in a key regional showdown Friday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium beginning at 4:00 p.m. EDT.

Softball

Yesenia Marrero

Sophomore Yesenia Marrero (Brockton, Mass.) went a perfect 6-for-6 with a two-run homer and four RBI in leading Stonehill to a sweep of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader of Saint Rose on Sunday afternoon by scores of 6-1 in the opener and 4-1 in the nightcap in games played at Gartland Field.  Juniors Stephanie Folan (Glen Cove, N.Y.) and Jaime Ippolito (Chelsea, Mass.) also rapped out round-trippers for Head Coach Danielle Delude's Skyhawks, who also received three hits each off the bats of junior Caitlin Flanagan (Cornwall, N.Y.) and sophomore Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.).  Freshman Kait Mendall (Middleboro, Mass.) tossed a complete-game two-hitter in the opener to pick up her fourth win of the season for the hosts, while sophomore Katie Mottau (Woonsocket, R.I.) went the distance on a six-hitter in the nightcap to pick up her fifth victory for Stonehill, which improved to 10-18 overall and 9-9 in Northeast-10 play with the sweep.  The Skyhawks close out an eight-game homestand Tuesday afternoon by hosting league-leading Southern Connecticut in a Northeast-10 twinbill at Gartland Field beginning at 3:00 p.m. EDT.

Stonehill advanced to the Northeast-10 Conference semi-final round for the third time in four seasons with a 5-0 league quarterfinal round triumph over Pace last Thursday afternoon on the Stonehill Courts, as the Skyhawks presented Head Coach Peter Miller with his 200th career victory in the process.  Senior Andy DeVita (Milford, Mass.) was a winner in both singles and doubles action on the day for the hosts, who dropped a 5-3 semi-final round decision to Bentley on Saturday afternoon at the Bryant Tennis Complex in Smithfield, R.I.  Freshman Mike Mashkevich (Framingham, Mass.) was named on Saturday as the 2007 Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year after posting a combined 27-10 mark in singles and doubles action as a rookie, and he was joined on this year's all-conference squad by DeVita, senior Matt Grabala (Bristol, Conn.), sophomores Will Herchel (Hampden, Mass.) and Dustin Marshall (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) as well as freshman Mike Leone (Cataumet, Mass.).  Stonehill, which has tied last year's single-season school record with 15 victories to date, will await word of selection into the field of 64 for the 2007 NCAA Division II Championships, as those pairings will be announced on Wednesday.

Lauren Rowinski

Freshman Lauren Rowinski (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) posted a come-from-behind three-set win at number three singles to lift Stonehill to a 5-4 victory over Southern New Hampshire in quarterfinal round play of the 2007 Northeast-10 Conference Championships last Thursday afternoon on the Stonehill Courts, as Head Coach Pam Arpe's Skyhawks earned a berth in the Northeast-10 Final Four for the seventh straight season, falling to top-seeded Saint Michael's (5-2) in the semi-final round.  Junior Daniella Granato (Concord, Mass.) and freshman Samantha Dircks (Stony Brook, N.Y.) each posted wins in singles and doubles play against Southern New Hampshire for Stonehill, while Rowinski teamed up with junior Elise Clark (Spring Lake, N.J.) for a triumph at number two doubles.  Dircks, Rowinski, Clark and junior Allison Bleakney (Lewiston, Maine) each earned all-Northeast-10 accolades for their performances this spring for the Skyhawks, who finished the season at 12-7 overall and 8-4 in Northeast-10 play.

Stonehill posted a 2-2-1 mark in five Northeast-10 Conference outings last week, as Head Coach Patrick Boen's Skyhawks posted a 5-0 league triumph over Assumption last Friday afternoon at H.L. Rocheleau Field in Worcester, Mass. on the strength of a five-hit shutout performance over eight innings by sophomore Matt Giusti (Hopkinton, Mass.) and took the opener of a twinbill with Southern Connecticut by a 7-5 final on Saturday afternoon at Owls Ballpark in New Haven, Conn., as senior Tom Aldrich (New Canaan, Conn.) collected three hits and drove in the winning runs with a sixth-inning single.  Seniors Chris Herrmann (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Matt Vaughn (Bow, N.H.) combined to strike out 23 in last Thursday's 16-inning 1-1 tie with Southern New Hampshire at Penmen Field in Manchester, N.H., as Herrmann fanned a career-high 13 over 8 2/3 innings of work while Vaughn struck out 10 in 7 1/3 innings of shutout relief.  Stonehill, now 15-20-1 overall and 7-14-1 in Northeast-10 play, begins a two-game league set with 15th-ranked Franklin Pierce on Tuesday afternoon at Dr. Pappas Field in Rindge, N.H. beginning at 3:30 p.m. EDT.

Brandon Beloin

Five school records fell during competition for both Stonehill squads last weekend at the M.I.T. Spring Coed Invitational in Cambridge, Mass. as well as at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton, N.J.  Senior Brandon Beloin (Danielson, Conn)., named as the Northeast-10 Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week, set a school record in the 400 intermediate hurdles (53.97) for Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks, and he was also part of a record-setting effort in the 4 X 400 relay along with seniors Vinnie Williams (Springfield, Mass.) and Dana Burbank (North Andover, Mass.) as well as junior Thomas Woods (Medfield, Mass.) with a time of 3:21.83.  Williams set a new mark in the 200 meters with a time of 21.59 at M.I.T., while juniors Russ Miranda (West Warwick, R.I.) and David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) set new standards in the hammer throw and 5,000 meters at M.I.T. and Princeton, respectively.  On the women's side, sophomore Jenny Gardynski (Everett, Mass.) set a school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in her first time ever competing in the event with a time of 12:07.17, while freshman Meghan Rocha (Nashua, N.H.) won the discus with a mark of 114 feet, 7 inches en route to earning Northeast-10 Female Freshman Field Athlete of the Week accolades for the third straight week.  Both Stonehill squads will compete at the Brown Invitational in Providence, R.I. on Sunday morning beginning at 10:00 a.m. EDT.

Friends Of Stonehill Athletics Golf Tournament
New Seabury Clubhouse

The Fifth Annual Friends of Stonehill Golf Tournament is set for Monday, June 25th on the Ocean Course at The Country Club of New Seabury in New Seabury, Massachusetts, with a shotgun start scheduled for 1:00 p.m. EDT.  Nicknamed "The Pebble Beach of the East", the Ocean Course offers spectacular views of Nantucket Sounds and Martha's Vineyard and was voted one of the top 50 courses in America by the ESPN Golf Guide.  The Friends of Stonehill Golf Tournament was established in 2003 to celebrate the athletic achievements of our student-athletes and to garner encouragement and financial support for their increasingly impressive athletic achievements.  Last year's event sold out, and spots in this year's field remain but are filling up quickly.  To reserve your spot in this year's event at $200 per individual or $800 per foursome, contact Associate Director of Athletics Brendan Sullivan at (508) 565-1667.
