March 6, 2004 - Stonehill's Equestrian team posted seven first place finishes to claim the highest point total at the Zone 1, Region 4 IHRA horse show hosted by Wellesley College.  Among the top-place winners were Kelsey Amedeo in Open Flat, Sarah Fillebrown in Int. Flat and Kim Foley for Walk-Trot.


Women's Basketball

Kim Morast

Senior Kim Morast (Bridgewater, Mass.) scored 19 points (two shy of her career-high) and recorded five steals to lead four players in double figures in 24th-ranked Stonehill's 68-43 Northeast-10 Conference victory over LeMoyne on Saturday afternoon at Merkert Gymnasium.  Senior Alisha Collins (Port Chester, N.Y.) added 14 points and five rebounds for Head Coach Trisha Brown's Skyhawks, who also received 10 points from freshman Megan Methven (Corning, N.Y.).  Senior Tiffany Huggins (Stoughton, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals for the winners, who shot 47 percent from the field and forced 24 turnovers in picking up their 15th triumph in 20 all-time series meetings with the Dolphins.  Stonehill, which improves to 17-5 overall and 12-5 in Northeast-10 play, begins a three-game road trip on Tuesday evening when the Skyhawks head to Lowell, Mass. to take on UMass Lowell in a Northeast-10 match-up that tips-off at 5:30 p.m. EST.

Ice Hockey

Matt Curran

Stonehill remained unbeaten in Northeast-10 Conference play by battling Assumption to a 3-3 league overtime tie on Saturday evening at the Buffone Rink in Worcester, Mass.  Sophomore Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.) netted a goal and an assist in the draw for Head Coach Scott Harlow's Skyhawks, who also received a pair of assists from junior Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine).  Senior Josh Green (Mendon, Mass.) made 27 saves in the tie, as Stonehill remains one of two unbeaten squads in league action and will host at least one Northeast-10 playoff game later this month.  Curran netted a pair of goals for the Skyhawks in a 4-2 non-conference victory over Nichols last Wednesday evening at the Bridgewater Ice Arena, as sophomore James Florentino (West Roxbury, Mass.) chipped in with a career-high three assists for the winners, who received a 25-save effort from Green between the pipes.  Stonehill, which stands at 6-10-1 overall and 2-0-1 in Northeast-10 play, begins a three-game homestand on Tuesday evening when the Skyhawks host Framingham State in an ECAC Northeast match-up at the Bridgewater Ice Arena beginning at 7:10 p.m. EST.

Men's Basketball

Nick Smith


Sophomore Nick Smith (Colonia, N.J.) scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead three players in double figures, but it wasn't enough as Stonehill dropped a 74-69 Northeast-10 Conference decision to LeMoyne on Saturday afternoon at Merkert Gymnasium.  Sophomore Matt Hall (Springfield, Mass.) added 12 points off the bench for Head Coach David McLaughlin's Skyhawks, who also received 10 points and six boards from freshman AJ Rudowitz (Monroe Township, N.J.) as well as nine points and four assists from freshman Randall Stallworth (Toms River, N.J.).  Stonehill, which falls to 13-9 overall and 8-9 in Northeast-10 play with the setback, begins a three-game road trip on Tuesday evening when the Skyhawks travel to Lowell, Mass. to take on UMass Lowell in a Northeast-10 clash that begins at 7:30 p.m. EST.  Stonehill's contest at rival Bentley next Saturday afternoon has been changed to a Noon EST tip in order to accommodate the national television broadcast by College Sports Television.

Men's Indoor Track & Field

Dana Burbank

Stonehill continued its stellar campaign with a second place team finish on Saturday afternoon at the Tufts Stampede Invitational at the Gantcher Center in Medford, Mass., as three individuals took top honors in their respective events for Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks.  Juniors Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass.) and David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) finished first in the 3,000 and 800 meters, respectively, for Stonehill, while sophomore Torrey Price (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) recorded his third straight victory in the 55 meters.  Senior Derek Hebert (Rockland, Mass.) broke a six-year old school record in the 600 meters for the Skyhawks with a time of 1:22.87, while fellow senior Dana Burbank (North Andover, Mass.) recorded a pair of third place performances in the 55 meter hurdles and high jump, respectively.  The distance medley relay team placed second in the event for Stonehill, which also received respective second and third place finishes from the 4 X 200 and 4 X 400 relay squads.  The Skyhawks will compete this weekend at the Boston University Valentine Classic beginning Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. EST and continuing on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. EST.

Women's Indoor Track & Field

Stonehill enjoyed a solid day of competition on Saturday afternoon at the Tufts Stampede Invitational at the Gantcher Center in Medford, Mass., as Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks placed sixth in the final team standings.  Freshmen Meaghan Murphy (North Conway, N.H.) and Bridget Conway (Floral Park, N.Y.) each placed third in the 3,000 meters and triple jump, respectively, for Stonehill, which also received a third place performance from sophomore Jenny Gardynski (Everett, Mass.) in the 5,000 meters.  The Skyhawk distance medley relay team of senior Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.), junior Amanda Carnevale (Stony Point, N.Y.), sophomore Kristina Coriarty (Brockton, Mass.) and freshman Bridget DeVincent (Attleboro, Mass.) posted a second place finish in the event with a time of 12:41.03.  Stonehill will compete on Saturday morning at the Boston University Valentine Classic that begins at 10:00 a.m. EST.

2007 Friends Of Stonehill Golf Tournament

New Seabury Clubhouse

Registration is now open for the 2007 Friends of Stonehill Athletics Golf Tournament that is set for Monday, June 25th on The Ocean Course at The Country Club of New Seabury.  The fifth annual event helps garner encouragement and financial support for all of the increasingly impressive athletic achievements at Stonehill, and in four short years over $75,000 has been raised for scholarship enhancements, equipment upgrades and other athletic initiatives.  Last year's event sold out quickly, so don't be left out of a chance to play on one of the most spectacular courses in all of New England and one of the top 50 courses in the United States as rated by ESPN.  The registration fee for this year's event is $200.00 per individual ($800.00 per foursome), and sponsorship opportunities are also available.  For additional information, click on the link below or contact Associate Director of Athletics Brendan Sullivan at (508) 565-1667.

Stonehill Basketball is once again be available on-line this season, as a total of 24 Skyhawk men's and women's regular season contests will be webcast at no charge via Stretch Internet, a service of Gilbert, Ariz., over the Official Athletics web site of Stonehill College, www.stonehillskyhawks.com.  Returning for the ninth season of calling the action of Skyhawk Basketball will be Charlie Bergeron, the voice of Stonehill Basketball and Football since 1998 who will provide play-by-play, and Brian Buckley, who will once again serve as the Skyhawks' color analyst.  The next Stonehill Basketball webcasts are set for Saturday, February 10th when the Skyhawks travel to Waltham, Mass. for a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader with rival Bentley beginning at Noon EST.  Skyhawk Basketball is also be available via videocast for a nominal fee on the new television network of the Northeast-10 Conference, Northeast-10 TV, at www.ne10.tv.
