February 18, 2008 - The Skyhawks won their third straight game behind a career milestone from junior captain Brendan O'Brien.  O'Brien's assist in the second period moved him into first place on Stonehill College's all-time list.  Brendan's record-breaking 82nd career assist came on the game-winning goal in their 4-1 win over Plymouth State.


Men's Basketball

Lance Clarke

Senior Lance Clarke (Cambridge, Mass.) hit a pair of free throws with 0.7 seconds remaining in overtime to lift Stonehill to an 83-81 Northeast-10 Conference victory over Assumption on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Merkert Gymnasium.  Clarke was one of six double-figure scorers with 12 points in the win for Head Coach David McLaughlin's Skyhawks, as his game winners from the charity stripe were set up by a key steal by fellow senior Soap Toun (Cranston, R.I.) in the closing seconds of regulation.  Freshman AJ Rudowitz (Monroe Township, N.J.) led the way with 15 points and nine rebounds in the triumph for Stonehill, which also received a career-high 14 points from sophomore Colin Scanlon (Centreville, Va.) as well as 13 points and six boards from sophomore Nick Smith (Colonia, N.J.).  Freshman Matt Hall (Springfield, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points, eight caroms and four assists for the winners, who also received 10 points from freshman Nikola Stevanovic (Belgrade, Serbia).  Clarke netted 20 points and grabbed six rebounds in a 71-61 Skyhawk victory over Southern New Hampshire last Thursday evening at the SNHU Fieldhouse in Manchester, N.H., as Smith added 19 points and five boards while Stevanovic chipped in with a career-high 14 points for Stonehill, which stands at 15-11 overall and 10-11 in Northeast-10 play.  The Skyhawks are in a three-way tie for seventh place in the conference standings heading into their regular season finale on Tuesday evening when Stonehill travels to Manchester, N.H. to take on Saint Anselm in a key league contest that tips-off at 7:30 p.m. EST.

Women's Basketball

Alisha Collins

Freshman Megan Methven (Corning, N.Y.) came off the bench to score 20 points, including five three-pointers, to lift Stonehill to a 66-64 Northeast-10 Conference victory over Assumption on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Merkert Gymnasium.  Senior Alisha Collins (Port Chester, N.Y.) added 18 points in the triumph for Head Coach Trisha Brown's Skyhawks, who also received eight points from fellow senior Caitlin Kennedy (Baldwin, N.Y.).  Senior Kim Morast (Bridgewater, Mass.) chipped in with seven points for the winners, who also received seven rebounds and six assists from senior Tiffany Huggins (Stoughton, Mass.).  Collins scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds in Stonehill's 61-53 Northeast-10 triumph over Southern New Hampshire last Thursday evening at the SNHU Fieldhouse in Manchester, N.H., as she became the 11th player in school history to reach the 1,300 career point plateau in the process.  Huggins added 12 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals in that victory for the Skyhawks, who also received 10 points and nine boards off the bench from junior Meghan Driscoll (Bridgewater, Mass.).  Stonehill, which improves at 19-7 overall and 14-7 in Northeast-10 play, stands in fifth place in the league standings heading into its regular season finale on Tuesday evening when the Skyhawks head to Manchester, N.H. to take on Saint Anselm in a conference contest that begins at 5:30 p.m. EST.

Stonehill ran its winning streak to five straight and its unbeaten string to seven on Saturday afternoon with a 5-3 non-league triumph over Becker at the Bridgewater Ice Arena, as sophomore James Florentino's (West Roxbury, Mass.) second goal of the game with 7:24 remaining proved to be the game-winner for Head Coach Scott Harlow's Skyhawks.  Florentino finished the day with three points for the winners, who also received a pair of goals off the stick of junior Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine) as well as the game-tying marker from sophomore Frank Amato (West Springfield, Mass.).  Sophomore Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.) collected a pair of assists for Stonehill, while senior Josh Green (Mendon, Mass.) picked up the win between the pipes for the Skyhawks with a 26-save effort.  Curran notched a pair of goals and an assist for three points in Stonehill's 7-3 non-league victory over Southern New Hampshire last Tuesday evening at The Ice Den in Hooksett, N.H., as O'Brien, junior Rob Carpenter (Cohasset, Mass.) and freshman Zachary Cantin (Walpole, Mass.) each added a goal and an assist for the visitors.  Sophomore Billy Ninteau (Litchfield, N.H.) registered a pair of helpers on the night for the Skyhawks, while senior Matt Gorman (Southboro, Mass.) made 26 saves to pick up the win in goal for Stonehill, which stands at 11-10-1 overall and has posted a 10-3-1 mark in its last 14 contests dating back to December 6th.  The Skyhawks close out their regular season home slate on Tuesday evening as Stonehill entertains Saint Michael's in a key Northeast-10 Conference Senior Night showdown at the Bridgewater Ice Arena that faces off at 6:00 p.m. EST.

Stonehill posted its highest team score and finish ever on Friday evening at the 2007 Northeast-10 Conference Championships at Southern Connecticut's Moore Fieldhouse in New Haven, Conn., as Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks posted 140 points to finish as the runner-up to the host Owls and 18 points ahead of third place UMass Lowell.  Freshman Josh Andrews (Chelmsford, Mass.) was named as the Northeast-10 Co-Freshman of the Year in a vote of the league's coaches, as he was one of six individuals to capture individuals titles for Stonehill, posting a winning time of 15:41.23 in the 5,000 meters.  Sophomore Torrey Price (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) broke his own school record in winning the 55 meters in a time of 6.36 while adding a second place finish in the 200 meters for Stonehill, which also received first place performances from seniors Derek Hebert (Rockland, Mass.) and Dana Burbank (North Andover, Mass.) in the 500 meters and high jump, respectively, as well as juniors Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass.) and Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass. in the 1,000 and 3,000 meters, respectively.  Andrews, Hebert, Gill and Ryan formed the winning tandem in the 4 X 800 relay for the Skyhawks, who also took top honors in the distance medley relay on solid performances by senior Tim Catoggio (Bradford, Mass.), juniors Dickie Gerry (Bow, N.H.) and David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) as well as sophomore Mark Porcaro (Medfield, Mass.).  Stonehill will compete this weekend at the 2007 New England Championships at Boston University, as action on both Friday and Saturday begins at 10:00 a.m. EST.

Stonehill matched its highest team finish ever at the 2007 Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Friday evening at Southern Connecticut's Moore Fieldhouse in New Haven, Conn., as Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks finished third in the competition to the champion Owls and runner-up UMass Lowell.  The distance medley relay team of sophomores Kristina Coriarty (Brockton, Mass.) and Shelby Greenfield (Mansfield, Mass.), along with freshmen Amanda Santacroce (Danvers, Mass.) and Bridget DeVincent (Attleboro, Mass.), took top honors in the event with a time of 12:58.80, while the 4 X 800 relay team of seniors Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) and Maura Williams (Ellington, Conn.), as well as sophomores Katie Brague (Mansfield, Mass.) and Kelley Harper (Liverpool, N.Y.), finished second in the event.  DeIngenis added a second place performance individually in the 1,000 meters for Stonehill, while senior Kelly Chaisson (Walpole, Mass.) and DeVincent placed second and third, respectively, in the mile.  Sophomore Jenny Gardynski (Everett, Mass.) was third in the 5,000 meters as well for the Skyhawks, who are set to compete at the 2007 New England Championships this weekend at Boston University, with action on both Friday and Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. EST.

2007 Friends Of Stonehill Golf Tournament

New Seabury Clubhouse

Registration is now open for the 2007 Friends of Stonehill Athletics Golf Tournament that is set for Monday, June 25th on The Ocean Course at The Country Club of New Seabury.  The fifth annual event helps garner encouragement and financial support for all of the increasingly impressive athletic achievements at Stonehill, and in four short years over $75,000 has been raised for scholarship enhancements, equipment upgrades and other athletic initiatives.  Last year's event sold out quickly, so don't be left out of a chance to play on one of the most spectacular courses in all of New England and one of the top 50 courses in the United States as rated by ESPN.  The registration fee for this year's event is $200.00 per individual ($800.00 per foursome), and sponsorship opportunities are also available.  For additional information, click on the link below or contact Associate Director of Athletics Brendan Sullivan at (508) 565-1667.
