December 29, 1994 - The women's basketball team improved to 8-0 after defeating Mansfield University and Edinboro University in the Stonehill Christmas Tournament.  Kim Trudel was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Senior Kim Morast's (Bridgewater, Mass.) three-pointer with 1.1 seconds remaining capped a furious second half comeback to lead 15th-ranked Stonehill to a 57-55 Northeast-10 Conference victory over rival Bentley Saturday afternoon at Merkert Gymnasium, as Head Coach Trisha Brown's Skyhawks erased a 17-point deficit with a solid 52 percent shooting effort from the field in the final 12-plus minutes of play.  Senior co-captain Alisha Collins (Port Chester, N.Y.) led four players in double figures with 16 points and eight rebounds for Stonehill, which also received 12 points from freshman Megan Methven (Corning, N.Y.) as well as 10 points each from Morast and senior co-captain Tiffany Huggins (Stoughton, Mass.).  Methven netted 14 points in a 56-52 Northeast-10 triumph over Assumption last Tuesday evening in Worcester, Mass. for the Skyhawks, as she also scored 15 points in a 64-59 Northeast-10 setback to 25th-ranked Saint Rose last Thursday night at Merkert Gymnasium in a game that also saw Collins chip in with 11 points and nine rebounds.  Stonehill, which improves to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in Northeast-10 play with Saturday's win over Bentley, closes out a three-game homestand on Wednesday evening when the Skyhawks entertain Bryant in a league contest at Merkert Gymnasium beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Men's Basketball

Nick Smith

Sophomore Nick Smith (Colonia, N.J.) enjoyed a high scoring week for Stonehill, as he netted a career-high 25 points in a 69-56 Northeast-10 Conference victory over Assumption last Tuesday evening at Laska Gymnasium in Worcester, Mass.  Smith matched that total just two nights later for Head Coach David McLaughlin's Skyhawks in a 69-66 Northeast-10 triumph over Saint Rose at Merkert Gymnasium before scoring 23 points in Saturday's 80-72 league home setback to seventh-ranked Bentley.  Freshman AJ Rudowitz (Monroe Township, N.J.) notched a double-double effort of 19 points and a career-high 12 rebounds in the win over Assumption and joined senior co-captain Lance Clarke (Cambridge, Mass.) by scoring 13 points in the victory over Saint Rose, while freshman Randall Stallworth (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) netted a career-high 15 points and dished off seven assists in Saturday's setback to Bentley.  Stonehill, which stands at 5-3 overall and 3-3 in Northeast-10 play, closes out a three-game homestand on Wednesday evening when the Skyhawks host Bryant in a conference clash at Merkert Gymnasium beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Stonehill opened Northeast-10 Conference play with a bang last Wednesday evening, as Head Coach Scott Harlow's Skyhawks posted a 3-1 victory over defending league champion Southern New Hampshire at the Bridgewater Ice Arena.  Three different individuals netted goals in the win for Stonehill, as juniors Brian Davis (Foxboro, Mass.) and Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine), along with sophomore Billy Ninteau (Litchfield, N.H.), each found the back of the net, and senior Matt Gorman (Southboro, Mass.) stopped 22 of 23 shots to post the triumph in goal for the hosts.  Curran, Ninteau and junior Chase Feole (Windham, N.H.) tallied in Stonehill's 4-3 non-league setback to Assumption on Saturday evening at the Bridgewater Ice Arena, as sophomore captian Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.) notched a pair of assists and Gorman made 23 saves in that contest for the Skyhawks.  Stonehill will take a 2-8 overall mark and a 1-0 Northeast-10 slate into its final first semester match-up on Monday evening when the Skyhakws head to Winchendon, Mass. to take on Franklin Pierce in a league clash that faces off at 7:00 p.m.

Indoor Track & Field

Dana DeIngenis

Both Skyhawk squads continued early season competition on Saturday afternoon at the Harvard Invitational in Cambridge, Mass., as senior Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) and freshman Bridget DeVincent (Attleboro, Mass.) placed fifth and sixth in the mile on the women's side with times of 5:12.94 and 5:17.40, respectively.  Senior Dana Burbank (North Andover, Mass.) was sixth in the 60 meter hurdles for Head Coach Karen Boen's men's squad with a time of 8.66 seconds, while junior Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.) placed 11th in the mile with a time of 4:27.  Both Stonehill teams will be idle until after the New Year when the Skyhawks travel to Kingston, R.I. to participate in the University of Rhode Island Invitational that begins at 10:00 a.m.

Equestrian

Heather Marban
Stonehill closed out the fall portion of its 2006-2007 slate last weekend by placing 15th of 26 teams competing at the 2006 Holiday Tournament of Champions in Cazenovia, N.Y.  Freshman Quinn Traendly (Hope Valley, R.I.) placed fourth in the open team flat for Head Coach Sara DelVecchio's Skyhawks and was ninth out of 32 riders in the Medal Cacchione Class, while sophomore Jenna Boyd (Middleton, Mass.) was third in the walk trot.  Senior Heather Marban (Ridgefield, Conn.) placed sixth in the intermediate flat for Stonehill, which also received a sixth place performance from freshman Kelsey Hill (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) in the novice flat and an eighth place finish in the novice fences from sophomore Becca Clifford (Rehoboth, Mass.).  The Skyhawks, who finished the fall season in third place in the IHSA Regional standings, will resume their schedule in early March.

All of Stonehill's remaining Northeast-10 Conference games can be accessed live via videocast through the Northeast-10's newest media venture, Northeast-10 TV.  The conference has partnered with videocasting company Penn Atlantic to provide a television quality picture via the internet so you can follow the Skyhawks in their quest for a pair of Northeast-10 titles this winter.  All games can be accessed for a fee of $6.99 through Northeast-10 TV, which can be found on the conference's web site at www.northeast10.org.  Audio for all remaining Northeast-10 home doubleheaders on Stonehill's schedule, plus a pair of conference road twinbills at Bryant and Bentley, will also be available at no charge through Stretch Internet.

Stonehill Basketball will once again be available on-line this season, as a total of 24 Skyhawk men's and women's regular season contests will be webcast at no charge via Stretch Internet, a service of Gilbert, Ariz., over the Official Athletics web site of Stonehill College, www.stonehillskyhawks.com.  Returning for the ninth season of calling the action of Skyhawk Basketball will be Charlie Bergeron, the voice of Stonehill Basketball and Football since 1998 who will provide play-by-play, and Brian Buckley, who will once again serve as the Skyhawks' color analyst.  The next Stonehill Basketball webcasts are set for Wednesday, December 13th when the Skyhawks entertain Bryant in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Skyhawk Basketball will also be available via videocast for a nominal fee on the new television network of the Northeast-10 Conference, Northeast-10 TV.
