Stonehill posted its best performance
ever at the NCAA Division II National Championships on Saturday
afternoon, as Head Coach Karen Boen's
Skyhawks placed 10th of 24 teams in the competition that took place as
part of the 2006 NCAA Division II Fall Sports Festival at the Escambia
County Equestrian Center in Pensacola, Fla. Stonehill, which fell
to fifth-ranked UMass Lowell in both the Northeast-10 Conference and
NCAA Northeast Regional championships, bested the River Hawks by nearly
100 points on the day, as junior Keith
Gill (Brockton, Mass.) led the way by becoming the fourth
All-America performer in school history, covering the 10K layout in a
time of 30:26.6 to finish 27th individually. Gill, who joins Mario Fraioli '04, Sean McKeon '05 and teammate David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) in
the All-America club, also becomes the first two-time All-America in
both cross country and track & field for the Skyhawks, as he earned
All-America accolades in the 1,500 meters last May at the 2006 NCAA
Outdoor Track Championships. Junior Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.) and
Metzger finished in 55th and 58th place, respectively, for Stonehill,
while senior Tim Catoggio
(Bradford, Mass.) and freshman Josh
Andrews (Chelmsford, Mass.) closed out the Skyhawk scoring by
placing 72nd and 104th, respectively.
