April 16, 2000 - Stonehill Women's Lacrosse fell 7-6 to Bentley in overtime.  The set-back marks the only time in the program's history that Stonehill has lost to a conference opponent. 


Men's Cross Country

Stonehill posted its best performance ever at the NCAA Division II National Championships on Saturday afternoon, as Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks placed 10th of 24 teams in the competition that took place as part of the 2006 NCAA Division II Fall Sports Festival at the Escambia County Equestrian Center in Pensacola, Fla.  Stonehill, which fell to fifth-ranked UMass Lowell in both the Northeast-10 Conference and NCAA Northeast Regional championships, bested the River Hawks by nearly 100 points on the day, as junior Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass.) led the way by becoming the fourth All-America performer in school history, covering the 10K layout in a time of 30:26.6 to finish 27th individually.  Gill, who joins Mario Fraioli '04, Sean McKeon '05 and teammate David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) in the All-America club, also becomes the first two-time All-America in both cross country and track & field for the Skyhawks, as he earned All-America accolades in the 1,500 meters last May at the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Track Championships.  Junior Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Metzger finished in 55th and 58th place, respectively, for Stonehill, while senior Tim Catoggio (Bradford, Mass.) and freshman Josh Andrews (Chelmsford, Mass.) closed out the Skyhawk scoring by placing 72nd and 104th, respectively.

Women's Cross Country

Stonehill posted its fourth top-17 team performance in the last seven seasons at the NCAA Division II National Championships last Saturday afternoon, as Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks placed 17th of 24 teams in competition that took place as part of the 2006 NCAA Division II Fall Sports Festival at the Escambia Country Equestrian Center in Pensacola, Fla.  Senior Kelly Chaisson (Walpole, Mass.) closed out her brilliant cross country career by becoming the third All-America performer in school history, as she covered the 6K layout in a time of 21:25 to join Meghann Shanahan '05 and Dianna Chivakos '05 in that exclusive club.  Senior Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) was next in 49th place for Stonehill, which made its seventh straight appearance in the NCAA national championship race, while junior Lesley Clunie (Newburyport, Mass.) was 92nd overall.  Sophomores Jackie Oates (South Easton, Mass.) and Jenny Gardynski (Everett, Mass.) rounded out the Skyhawk scoring by placing 101st and 102nd, respectively.

Men's Basketball

Sophomore Nick Smith (Colonia, N.J.) scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead four players in double figures as Stonehill began defense of its NCAA Northeast Regional crown with an 80-44 non-league victory over St. Thomas Aquinas as part of the Northeast-10/East Coast Conference Challenge last Wednesday evening at Aquinas Hall in Sparkill, N.Y.  Senior co-captain Lance Clarke (Cambridge, Mass.) added 15 points in the triumph for Head Coach David McLaughlin's Skyhawks, who also received 14 points and eight boards from freshman AJ Rudowitz (Monroe Township, N.J.) and 12 points from fellow freshman Nikola Stevanovic (Belgrade, Serbia).  Freshman Randall Stallworth (Toms River, N.J.) netted eight points and dished off seven assists in his collegiate debut, while senior co-captain Soap Toun (Cranston, R.I.) and sophomore Colin Scanlon (Centreville, Va.) combined for 13 points for Stonehill, which shot 50 percent from the field and 82 percent from three-point range.  The Skyhawks open both their home and Northeast-10 slates on Monday evening in hosting Southern New Hampshire at Merkert Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m., and Stonehill then heads to Bridgeport, Conn. to take on Mercy in a non-league outing on Wednesday evening at Harbor Yard beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Ice Hockey

Stonehill opened ECAC Northeast play with three contests last week, as Head Coach Scott Harlow's Skyhawks dropped a 5-3 home decision to Plymouth State last Monday evening before falling by a 5-2 final at UMass Dartmouth last Wednesday and by a 5-4 margin in overtime on Saturday afternoon to Nichols at the Jahn Rink in Pomfret, Conn.  Junior Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine) netted three points on the week for Stonehill, including a pair of goals in the setback at Nichols, while senior Evan Spencer (Billerica, Mass.) added a goal and two assists on the week for the Skyhawks.  Senior Matt Gorman (Southboro, Mass.) made 92 saves in a pair of appearances in goal on the week, including a school single-game record 60 stops in Saturday's overtime setback at Nichols.  Stonehill, 1-4 overall and 0-3 in ECAC Northeast play, wraps up a three-game road trip on Tuesday evening by heading to Fitchburg, Mass. to take on Fitchburg State in an ECAC Northeast outing that faces off at 7:00 p.m.

Equestrian

Sophomore Jamie Marsalise (Laurel Hollow, N.Y.) earned individual high point rider honors on Sunday afternoon as Stonehill placed fifth of 12 teams competing at the Boston College Intercollegiate Horse Show at Volo Farm in Westford, Mass.  Marsalise posted first place finishes in the open fences and open flat for Head Coach Sara DelVecchio's Skyhawks, who also received first place performances from junior Renee Rogers (Hopkinton, Mass.) and freshman Kelli-Ann Monroe (Swanzey, N.H.) in the novice flat as well as freshmen Stephanie Perry (West Wareham, Mass.) and Megan Martinez (New York, N.Y.) in the intermediate flat and novice fences, respectively.  Stonehill is tied for second place in the IHSA Regional standings with Boston University through five shows this season, and the Skyhawks return to action on Sunday, December 3rd with competition at the Holiday Tournament of Champions beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Stonehill returns to action for the first time in 16 days on Tuesday evening when Head Coach Trisha Brown's Skyhawks begin a three-game homestand and open Northeast-10 Conference play by entertaining Southern New Hampshire in a league outing at Merkert Gymnasium that tips-off at 5:30 p.m.  Stonehill, 3-0 on the young season, has been idle since capturing the title at the 2006 Disney Division II Tip-Off Classic during the first weekend of November at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla., as the Skyhawks bested Augustana (S.D.), Felician and 11th-ranked West Texas A&M to take top team honors.  Stonehill, which finished second in last year's Northeast-10 race at 17-5 in conference play, will also host Concordia (Sunday, November 26th) and UMass Lowell (Wednesday, November 29th) as part of the three-game homestand.

Stonehill Basketball will once again be available on-line this season, as a total of 24 Skyhawk men's and women's regular season contests will be webcast at no charge via Stretch Internet, a service of Gilbert, Ariz., over the Official Athletics web site of Stonehill College, www.stonehillskyhawks.com.  Returning for the ninth season of calling the action of Skyhawk Basketball will be Charlie Bergeron, the voice of Stonehill Basketball and Football since 1998 who will provide play-by-play, and Brian Buckley, who will once again serve as the Skyhawks' color analyst.  The first Stonehill Basketball webcasts of the new season take place on Wednesday, November 29th when the Skyhawks entertain UMass Lowell in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Skyhawk Basketball will also be available via videocast for a nominal fee on the new television network of the Northeast-10 Conference, Northeast-10 TV.
