March 11, 1999 - Stonehill's first varsity Women's Lacrosse game took place during Spring Fling '99 in Panama City Beach, Fla.  Junior Allie Riccio scored three goals and added two assists in their 13-11 win over Virginia Wesleyan.  Stonehill finished 11-3 in their inaugural season.

Kevin Avitabile

Sophomore Jon Kaloyanides (Cranston, R.I.) amassed 104 yards of total offense and rushed for a pair of touchdowns as Stonehill claimed the inaugural "Battle For The Hawk" with a 24-9 Northeast-10 Conference victory over Saint Anselm on Saturday afternoon at Grappone Stadium in Manchester, N.H.  Senior Kevin Avitabile (Bridgewater, Mass.) rushed for a career-high 86 yards as well for Head Coach Chris Woods's Skyhawks, who also received a 20-yard scoring strike from Kaloyanides to fellow sophomore Chris Palmer (Santa Barbara, Calif.) as well as a career-best 41 yard field goal from junior Sean Donahue (Plymouth, N.H.).  Junior Chris Regan (Hanson, Mass.) paced the visitors defensively with nine total tackles (seven solo) and a pair of pass break-ups, while senior co-captain Tony Pires (Taunton, Mass.) added a pair of sacks for Stonehill, which improves to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in Northeast-10 play.  The Skyhawks return home on Saturday, October 14th to take on Bryant in a Northeast-10 clash at W.B. Mason Stadium beginning at Noon that will be part of Homecoming/Alumni Weekend festivities.

Field Hockey

Claire Hourihan


Four different individuals netted goals to lead fourth-ranked Stonehill to a 4-2 Northeast-10 Conference victory over Bryant on Saturday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium.  Junior Caitlin Gleason (New Boston, Mass.) her team-leading seventh marker on the day for Head Coach Pam Arpe's Skyhawks, who also received the first collegiate tallies off the sticks of freshman Alexandra Buchan (Stowe, Vt.) and Claire Hourihan (East Amherst, N.Y.) as well as a penalty stroke conversion by junior Brittany Dibble (Troy, N.Y.).  Junior Dani Ryder (Gloucester, Mass.) made four saves to pick up the win in goal for Stonehill, which split a pair of conference matches last week in dropping a 2-0 decision to Assumption last Wednesday evening at Multi-Purpose Stadium in Worcester, Mass.  The Skyhawks, 8-3 overall and tied for first place in the loss column of the Northeast-10 standings with rival Bentley at 6-2, entertain Saint Anselm in a league match on Tuesday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium beginning at 4:00 p.m.

Men's Cross Country

Joe Ryan


Junior captain Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.) earned all-New England honors with a ninth place individual finish as ninth-ranked Stonehill placed 12th among 45 competitors on Saturday afternoon at the 2006 New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston.  Ryan covered the 8K layout in a time of 25:05 for Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks, while fellow junior Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass.) was next in 16th place with a time of 25:13.  Junior All-America David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) was the third Stonehill runner across the line in 38th place with a time of 25:30, while sophomore Matt Meagher (Mansfield, Mass.) and senior Tim Catoggio (Bradford, Mass.) closed out the scoring by placing 121st and 125th, respectively.  The Skyhawks will head to Williamstown, Mass. on Saturday afternoon for their final tune-up prior to the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, as Stonehill will compete in the Williams Plansky Invitational that begins at 1:00 p.m.

Women's Cross Country

Stonehill was the top Division II squad at the 2006 New England Championships last Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park in Boston, as Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks placed 14th among 46 competitors on the day.  Senior Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) led the way for Stonehill by placing 28th individually with a time of 18:27 over the 5K layout, while fellow senior Kelly Chaisson (Walpole, Mass.) was next in 39th place with a time of 18:33, while three-time Northeast-10 Conference Freshman of the Week Andrea Topalis (Simsbury, Conn.) checked in at 124th place with a time of 19:28.  Senior Jill Allen (Peabody, Mass.) and junior Lesley Clunie (Newburyport, Mass.) rounded out the Skyhawk scoring by placing 135th and 146th, respectively.  Stonehill will wrap-up its regular season slate on Saturday afternoon by heading to Williamstown, Mass. to compete in the Williams Plansky Invitational that begins at 12:15 p.m.

Women's Soccer

Stonehill picked up four points to remain in the thick of the Northeast-10 Conference playoff chase last week, as Head Coach Rolando Lopes's Skyhawks posted a 2-0 league triumph over American International last Wednesday afternoon before battling Southern New Hampshire to a scoreless double overtime Northeast-10 tie on Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field in Manchester, N.H.  Juniors Lauren Boyd (Sandwich, Mass.) and Ashley Bourne (Brockton, Mass.) netted goals in Wednesday's win over AIC, as junior Alex Eckhardt (Marshfield, Mass.) and sophomore Marissa Bramwell (Norton, Mass.) combined for the shutout in net.  Eckhardt was called upon to make one save in Saturday's scoreless draw at Southern New Hampshire, as she picked up her fifth shutout of the season and 10th of her career in the process.  Stonehill, which stands at 5-3-4 overall and 4-3-4 in Northeast-10 play, will host Pace in its final regular season home match on Saturday, October 14th at Skyhawk Field beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Joseph Sousa

Senior Joseph Sousa (Shelton, Conn.) netted a pair of goals and freshman Martin Earley (Winterport, Maine) added a goal and an assist to lead Stonehill to a 6-0 non-league victory over Bloomfield Monday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.  Freshman Shaun Keeley (Woburn, Mass.), junior Joey Silva (Brockton, Mass.) and sophomore Daniel Holley (Manorville, N.Y.) also tallied for Head Coach Jose Gomes's Skyhawks, who also received assists from senior Derek Hebert (Rockland, Mass.), sophomore Thomas Hernon (Mansfield, Mass.) and freshmen Ben Irzyk (Wakefield, R.I.) and T.J. Capecelatro (Orange, Conn.).  Sophomore Danny Kerl (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and freshman Brian Guerrini (Glastonbury, Conn.) made three saves to pick up the combined shutout win in goal for Stonehill, which posted its highest single-match scoring output in nearly three seasons in improving to 6-9 overall.  The Skyhawks, who have notched their highest single-season victory total in seven years, host Northeast-10 rival American International in the first-ever home night soccer contest on Friday evening at W.B. Mason Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Rebekah Saunders

Junior captain Rebekah Saunders (Gilford, N.H.) notched 28 kills and 32 digs in three matches on the week for Stonehill, which dropped a pair of Northeast-10 Conference decisions to Southern New Hampshire (3-1 last Wednesday evening at Merkert Gymnasium) and Saint Anselm (3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium in Manchester, N.H.).  Sophomore Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass.) added 38 kills and 42 digs on the week for Head Coach Brad Alexander's Skyhawks, who also dropped a 3-0 non-league decision to C.W. Post as a part of a tri-match at Saint Anselm.  Sophomore Patricia Godio (East Rockaway, N.Y.) chipped in with 42 set assists and 26 digs on the week for Stonehill, which fell to 4-13 overall and 2-4 in Northeast-10 play with the three decisions.  The Skyhawks return to action on Tuesday evening by heading to Smithfield, R.I. to take on Bryant in a Northeast-10 match that begins at 7:00 p.m.
