Stonehill extended its winning
streak to six straight with a pair of Northeast-10 Conference triumphs
last week, as Head Coach Pam Arpe's
fifth-ranked Skyhawks made an improbable comeback last Wednesday
evening with two goals in the final 23 seconds of play in notching a
3-2 league victory over ninth-ranked Merrimack at Warrior Field in
North Andover, Mass. Junior Caitlin
Gleason (New Boston, N.H.) netted the game-winner with no time
remaining off a penalty corner after sophomore Kerri Sullivan (Goffstown, N.H.) had
evened matters with just 23 seconds remaining in regulation off another
penalty corner, as junior Dani Ryder
(Gloucester, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for the visitors with a
pair of saves. Gleason netted her 11th goal of the season in
Saturday's 2-0 Northeast-10 victory over Franklin Pierce at Sodexho
Field in Rindge, N.H., while senior Courtney
Campbell (Reading, Mass.) added a goal and an assist for the
Skyhawks, who also received a pair of assists off the stick of senior
All-America Kelly Latendresse
(Sidney, Maine) to cap Ryder's seventh shutout of the fall.
Stonehill, which stands at 13-3 overall and a half game in front of
rival Bentley for first place in the Northeast-10 standings at 11-2,
closes out its regular season road slate on Tuesday evening with a
conference match-up against Bryant in Smithfield, R.I. that begins at
7:00 p.m.

Despite ending the regular
season with a pair of Northeast-10 road setbacks at Merrimack (2-1) and
UMass Lowell (2-0) last week, Stonehill earned its first conference
playoff spot in five years, as Head Coach Rolando Lopes's Skyhawks are seeded
seventh in the 2006 tournament and will travel to Rindge, N.H. on
Tuesday afternoon to take on second-seeded Franklin Pierce in
quarterfinal round play beginning at 4:00 p.m. Junior Meghan O'Brien (Stow, Mass.) netted
the lone Stonehill goal in last Tuesday's setback at Merrimack, while
fellow junior Alex Eckhardt
(Marshfield, Mass.) made six saves against the Warriors while adding
one stop in Saturday's regular season finale at UMass Lowell. The
Skyhawks bring a 6-5-4 overall mark into Tuesday's Northeast-10
quarterfinal match-up at Franklin Pierce after finishing conference
regular season action at 5-5-4, as Stonehill's last post-season contest
came during the 2001 campaign.
