April 8, 1990 - Phil Lecuyer put his name in Stonehill Baseball's record book.  During a doubleheader sweep of Wentworth, Lecuyer became the all-time Stonehill hit leader when he picked up his 123rd career hit.


Field Hockey

Caitlin Gleason

Stonehill, ranked sixth in last week's NFHCA Division II national poll, posted a pair of 3-0 Northeast-10 Conference victories over Franklin Pierce last Wednesday evening at W.B. Mason Stadium and American International on Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Mass.  Junior Caitlin Gleason (New Boston, N.H.), who is featured in this week's edition of Sports Illustrated's "Faces In The Crowd", netted a pair of goals for Head Coach Pam Arpe's Skyhawks, who also received a goal and two assists from senior All-America Kelly Latendresse (Sidney, Maine) as well as two markers off the stick of junior Aly Boulis (Lincoln, R.I.).  Junior Dani Ryder (Gloucester, Mass.) picked up both shutout triumphs in goal for Stonehill with three total saves, as the Skyhawks stand in first place in the conference standings at 7-2 overall and 5-1 in league play.  Stonehill heads to Worcester, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on Assumption in a Northeast-10 match that begins at 7:00 p.m.

Volleyball

Katherine Masson


Sophomore Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass.) notched 15 kills and 10 digs to lead Stonehill to a 3-0 Northeast-10 Conference victory over Saint Michael's on Saturday afternoon at the Ross Sports Center in Colchester, Vt.  Masson recorded 36 total kills in a pair of wins on the week for Head Coach Brad Alexander's Skyhawks, including 21 kills, 14 digs, four service aces and six total blocks in a 3-2 non-league triumph over Post (Conn.) last Thursday evening at Merkert Gymnasium, while sophomore teammate Heidi Woerner (North Kingstown, R.I.) chipped in with 12 kills in Saturday's win at Saint Michael's.  Freshman Kristen Hordern (Swansea, Mass.) collected 76 set assists in the two victories for Stonehill, including 41 set assists at Saint Michael's that followed 35 set assists, 19 digs and six service aces in Thursday's win over Post.  Stonehill, 4-10 overall and 2-2 in Northeast-10 play after winning three of its last five matches overall, returns to action on Wednesday evening as the Skyhawks host Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast-10 contest at Merkert Gymnasium that begins at 7:00 p.m.

Women's Cross Country

Jackie Oates


Stonehill, ranked 24th nationally in Division II last week, took top team honors for the second straight week on Saturday afternoon at the Bryant Invitational in Smithfield, R.I.  Freshman Andrea Topalis (Simsbury, Conn.), a two-time selection as Northeast-10 Conference Freshman of the Week this season, led the way for Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks by finishing third with a time of 20:31 over the 5K layout, while freshman Christine Doherty (Canton, Mass.) and sophomore Jackie Oates (South Easton, Mass.) were next in fifth and sixth place, respectively, with times of 20:47 and 20:58.  Sophomore Jenny Gardynski (Everett, Mass.) and junior Marissa Lapointe (Ludlow, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for Stonehill by placing eighth and 10th, respectively, with times of 21:16 and 21:20, as the Skyhawks bested runner-up Merrimack to take top team accolades.  Stonehill will compete for the 2006 New England Championship next Saturday, October 7th at Franklin Park in Boston beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Men's Cross Country

Khalid Abdi

Stonehill, ranked 11th nationally in Division II for the second straight week, captured third place team honors at the Bryant Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Smithfield, R.I., as junior Kyle Sousa (North Dighton, Mass.) led the way for Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks by placing fourth individually with a time of 28:22 over the 8K layout.  Fellow junior Ryan Gattoni (East Sandwich, Mass.) was next in seventh place with a time of 28:32, while juniors Khalid Abdi (Brockton, Mass.) and Andy Schaalman (North Andover, Mass.) followed in 17th and 18th place, respectively, with times of 29:04 and 29:05.  Freshman Mike Prisby (Agawam, Mass.) closed out the Stonehill scoring by finishing 37th in a time of 30:35, as Merrimack took top team honors in the competition.  The Skyhawks, ranked seventh in last week's all-divisions New England poll, will compete for the 2006 New England Championship next Saturday, October 7th at Franklin Park in Boston beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Women's Soccer

Lauren Boyd
Junior Lauren Boyd (Sandwich, Mass.) netted her second hat trick of the season and added an assist for seven points in leading Stonehill to an 8-0 Northeast-10 Conference victory over rival Bentley on Saturday afternoon in Waltham, Mass.  Fellow junior Ashley Bourne (Brockton, Mass.) added a pair of goals and two assists in the win for Head Coach Rolando Lopes's Skyhawks, while freshman Kelly Regan (Mansfield, Mass.) set a school single-match record with four assists on the day, including three in the first half alone.  Junior Meghan O'Brien (Stow, Mass.) and sophomore Kelley Harper (Liverpool, N.Y.) added goals in the triumph for Stonehill, as sophomore Marissa Bramwell (Norton, Mass.) and junior Alex Eckhardt (Marshfield, Mass.) made four saves in the combined shutout victory for the Skyhawks, their largest over an opponent in nearly two seasons.  Stonehill, 4-3-3 overall and 3-3-3 in Northeast-10 play, hosts American International in a league match on Wednesday afternoon at Skyhawk Field beginning at 4:00 p.m.

J.J. Niamkey

Junior J.J. Niamkey (Quincy, Mass.) returned a fourth quarter kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, the third longest such return in school history, as Stonehill dropped a 24-7 non-league decision to Division I-AA foe Iona on Saturday afternoon at Mazzella Field in New Rochelle, N.Y.  Sophomore Jon Kaloyanides (Cranston, R.I.) threw for 50 yards on the day for Head Coach Chris Woods's Skyhawks, who also received 26 rushing yards from senior Kevin Avitabile (Bridgewater, Mass.).  Senior Vincent Delaney (Baltimore, Md.) notched 12 total tackles on the day for Stonehill, which also received eight total tackles and a sack from sophomore George Whetstone (Westwood, Mass.).  The Skyhawks, 0-5 overall, return to Northeast-10 Conference play next Saturday, October 7th when Stonehill travels to Manchester, N.H. to take on Saint Anselm in a league outing at Grappone Stadium that kicks off at 1:00 p.m.

Danny Kerl

Sophomore Danny Kerl (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) made a career-high 14 saves in goal for Stonehill on Saturday afternoon in a 5-0 Northeast-10 Conference setback to third-ranked Franklin Pierce at Skyhawk Field.  Head Coach Jose Gomes's Skyhawks began the week with a tough 2-1 non-league setback to Post (Conn.) last Wednesday afternoon at Skyhawk Field, as sophomore Rick Carvalho (Hollis, N.H.) netted his fifth goal of the season on assists from freshmen Shaun Keeley (Woburn, Mass.) and Victor Regis (Topsfield, Mass.).  Freshman Brian Guerrini (Glastonbury, Conn.) made four saves in Wednesday's setback to Stonehill, which stands at 5-7 overall and 2-6 in Northeast-10 play.  The Skyhawks return to action on Tuesday afternoon when Stonehill heads to Smithfield, R.I. to take on Bryant in a league match that begins at 3:00 p.m.
