October 30, 2005 - Stonehill Field Hockey claimed their first ever Northeast-10 Conference Championship with a 2-1 victory led by sophomore Ali Boulis.  Boulis, the Tournament MVP, scored the game-winner in overtime as the sixth-ranked Skyhawks defeated third ranked UMass-Lowell.

 


Men's Basketball

Randall Stallworth

Freshman Randall Stallworth's (Toms River, N.J.) lay-in with 1.7 seconds remaining lifted Stonehill to a 72-71 Northeast-10 Conference victory over Franklin Pierce last Saturday afternoon, capping a late comeback that saw Head Coach David McLaughlin's Skyhawks trail by seven points in the closing minutes of action.  Fellow freshman AJ Rudowitz (Monroe Township, N.J.) led four players in double figures with 19 points in the triumph for the hosts, who also received 16 poitns from sophomore Nick Smith (Colonia, N.J.) as well as 13 points and six assists from Stallworth.  Senior co-captain Lance Clarke (Cambridge, Mass.) added 12 points for Stonehill, which began the week by dropping a 63-58 Northeast-10 decision to American International last Wednesday evening at Butova Gymnasium in Springfield, Mass.  Smith led the way with 16 points in that contest for the Skyhawks, which also received 11 points from freshman Nikola Stevanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) as well as 10 points from Clarke.  Stonehill, which stands at 13-6 overall and 8-6 in Northeast-10 play, heads to New Haven, Conn. on Tuesday evening to take on Southern Connecticut in a league match-up that tips-off ats 7:30 p.m. EST.

Women's Basketball

Alisha Collins

Senior co-captain Alisha Collins (Port Chester, N.Y.) scored 28 points to become the 14th player in school history to eclipse the 1,200 career point plateau, but it wasn't enough as 10th-ranked Stonehill dropped an 80-69 Northeast-10 Conference decision to Franklin Pierce last Saturday afternoon at Merkert Gymnasium.  Freshman Megan Methven (Corning, N.Y.) added 16 points in the setback for Head Coach Trisha Brown's Skyhawks, which also received 10 points from senior co-captain Tiffany Huggins (Stoughton, Mass.).  Stonehill began the week by seeing its eight-game winning streak come to an end with a 57-53 Northeast-10 setback to 18th-ranked American International last Wednesday evening at Butova Gymnasium in Springfield, Mass., as Collins notched a double-double effort of 13 points and 10 rebounds while Huggins and fellow senior Caitlin Kennedy (Baldwin, N.Y.) each grabbed seven boards for the visitors.  Stonehill, which cracked the WBCA Division II top 10 for the second time in the last calendar year last week, takes a 15-4 overall mark and a 10-4 Northeast-10 slate into a league showdown with fourth-ranked Southern Connecticut on Tuesday evening in New Haven, Conn. that begins at 5:30 p.m. EST.

Sophomore Frank Amato (West Springfield, Mass.) netted a pair of goals and an assist for three points in leading Stonehill to its second straight win and third victory in the last four outings with a 7-2 ECAC Northeast triumph over Worcester State last Friday evening at the Horgan Rink in Auburn, Mass.  Amato, who was tabbed as the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for his efforts, was joined in the three-point club on Friday by junior Rob Carpenter (Cohasset, Mass.) and sophomore captain Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.), who each netted a goal and two assists on the night, while sophomore James Florentino (West Roxbury, Mass.) chipped in with a goal and an assist for Head Coach Scott Harlow's Skyhawks.  Junior Anthony Zanetti (Ludlow, Mass.) and freshman Corey Glynn (Hamden, Conn.) notched two helpers each for Stonehill, which scored five times in the final period to ice its triumph.  Senior Matt Gorman (Southboro, Mass.) stopped 29 of 31 shots to pick up the win in goal for the Skyhawks and in the process earn his third straight Northeast-10 Goalie of the Week accolade, as the win lifted the visitors to 4-8 overall and 3-6 in ECAC Northeast play.  Stonehill heads to Boston, Mass. on Tuesday evening to take on Wentworth in an ECAC Northeast match-up that faces-off at 7:30 p.m. EST.

Men's Indoor Track & Field

Dana Burbank

Stonehill resumed its 2006-2007 schedule last Saturday afternoon with a sixth place finish at the University of Rhode Island Sorlein Invitational held at Mackal Fieldhouse in Kingston, R.I.  Senior Dana Burbank (North Andover, Mass.) led the way for Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks by winning the heptathlon in his first ever performance in the event while earning Northeast-10 Conference Athlete of the Week accolades for the second time this season, as he also qualified for the upcoming all-New England Championships in the process.  Junior Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass.) and sophomore Torrey Price (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) each set school records in the 1,000 meters and 55 meters, respectively, with times of 2:27.0 and 6.48, respectively, as Gill placed second in his event.  Senior Vinnie Williams (Springfield, Mass.) added a second place performance in the 200 meters with a time of 22.69 for Stonehill, which is set to compete this weekend at both the Boston University Invitational and the Boston Indoor Games.

Women's Indoor Track & Field

Dana DeIngenis
Senior Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) returned to her home state in fine fashion on Saturday afternoon, as she helped lead Stonehill to a fifth place time finish at the University of Rhode Island Sorlein Invitational held at the Mackal Fieldhouse in Kingston, R.I.  DeIngenis placed third in the 1,000 meters for Head Coach Karen Boen's Skyhawks with a time of 3:00.69, while fellow senior Kelly Chaisson (Walpole, Mass.) added a fourth place performance in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:32.37.  Junior Amanda Carnevale (Stony Point, N.Y.) and sophomore Ashley Lane (Needham, Mass.) each added fifth place efforts in the 500 and 400 meters, respectively, with times of 1:21.67 and 1:02.59, as Stonehill was the top Division II entrant in the predominantly Division I field.  The Skyhawks are set to compete this weekend at the Boston University Invitational.

Snyder Appointed As Stonehill's Volleyball Coach

Eric Snyder, who served as Assistant Volleyball Coach at the University of South Alabama this past fall, has been named as Head Volleyball Coach at Stonehill College, as he replaces Brad Alexander, who retired after five seasons at the helm this past November.  A native of Wilbraham, Mass., Snyder returns to his New England roots after serving as an assistant for the Division I Jaguars during the 2006 campaign, and he gained additional experience as a graduate assistant coach at Tiffin (Ohio) University during the 2004 and 2005 seasons.  A 2004 graduate of Southern New Hampshire, Snyder served as an assistant coach during his undergraduate tenure and helped lead the Penmen to their highest win total in 17 years and a berth in the Northeast-10 Conference championships during his senior campaign in 2003.  A camp counselor and clinician throughout the country, Snyder has been involved with club organizations in both Ohio and New Hampshire.  He earned a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management & Business Administration from Southern New Hampshire and a Masters of Business Administration from Tiffin in 2005.

Stonehill Basketball is once again be available on-line this season, as a total of 24 Skyhawk men's and women's regular season contests will be webcast at no charge via Stretch Internet, a service of Gilbert, Ariz., over the Official Athletics web site of Stonehill College, www.stonehillskyhawks.com.  Returning for the ninth season of calling the action of Skyhawk Basketball will be Charlie Bergeron, the voice of Stonehill Basketball and Football since 1998 who will provide play-by-play, and Brian Buckley, who will once again serve as the Skyhawks' color analyst.  The next Stonehill Basketball webcasts are set for Saturday, January 27th when the Skyhawks entertain Pace in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:30 p.m. EST.  Skyhawk Basketball is also be available via videocast for a nominal fee on the new television network of the Northeast-10 Conference, Northeast-10 TV, at www.ne10.tv.
