Five Skyhawks Named All-Academic

Juniors Jenny Gardynski (Everett, Mass./Everett) and Kristina Coriaty (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) and Jackie Oates (South Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) are three of the five Skyhawks named to the 2007 NCAA Division II USTFCCCA Women’s Cross Country All-Academic team. Joining them in representing Stonehill are sophomores Andrea Topalis (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) and Meaghan Murphy (North Conway, N.H./Kennett). Gardynski and Coriaty are both communication majors finishing up their third year at Stonehill College. The two are also members of the Indoor Track team along with Topalis, an education major, and Murphy, who is currently undeclared. Rounding out the list for Stonehill is junior Jackie Oates, who is studying health care administration.

Four years after Clunie left Byfield Academy as one of its top runners on some of its top teams, not much has changed. Clunie is still running, and she is still a big part of her team's success. Clunie, 21, completed her final cross country season at Stonehill College as one of the top runners in the NCAA Northeast Region. Stonehill placed first as a team, beating UMass-Lowell, and Clunie placed sixth in the 6K Northeast Regionals in November with a time of 23.12 (6:16 mile pace). That earned her first team all-region honors. Clunie finished her career at the NCAA Division 2 National Championship at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo., with an 87th-place finish in the 6K with a time of 23.06.

Skyhawks 22nd At NCAA's

Stonehill wrapped up its 2007 season with a 22nd place finish at the 2007 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning on the campus of Missouri Southern State University. Adams State, which placed four runners in the top 20 and all five scoring runners in the top 25, easily outdistanced Seattle Pacific for the team title. Seattle Pacific’s Jessica Pixler was crowned the individual champion. Freshman Kelly O’Toole (Nashua, N.H.) was the Skyhawks top finisher in 76th place at 22:51.2 on the 6K course.
