Now in her 15th year at Stonehill, Karen Boen has brought the men’s and women’s cross country and track & field programs to national prominence with a resume unrivaled in the Northeast-10 Conference.
In 14 years at the helm of the women’s cross country program, Boen has led the team to ten NE-10 championships and ten NCAA Division II East Region titles, and the Skyhawks have qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships for 12 consecutive years. She has developed four women’s cross country All-Americans and over 80 All-Conference and All-Region honorees, and has coached the last three out of four NE-10 Rookies of the Year. Boen’s twelve NE-10 Coach of the Year awards are the most of any coach in the history of NE-10 cross country, and she has also earned NCAA Division II East Region Coach of the Year honors nine times.
Most recently, during the 2011 season, the Skyhawks claimed both the conference and regional titles for the third consecutive year, after spending the entire season at the top of the East Region rankings as well as in the national top 25, and placed 19th overall at the NCAA Championships. The team placed nine runners on the All-Conference squad and six on the All-East Region team.
Boen’s teams have also excelled academically, making ten consecutive appearances on the NCAA Division II All-Academic Team, and consistently placing the majority of the team on the Stonehill Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.
A 1979 graduate of Bridgewater State College with a degree in exercise physiology, Boen and her husband Carl reside in Stoughton and have three daughters, Courtney, Colleen, and Molly.
