All-New England Honors For Gardynski and 4x800

Jen Gardynski keeps getting better and better in the steeplechase. She turned in a school record performance, posting a fourth place finish in the event, highlighting Stonehill’s performance in the New England Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of New Hampshire over the weekend. Gardynski’s 11:14.47 outcome earned her All-New England status and provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Championships. Overall, the Skyhawks finished in 26th place with seven points, while team champion Boston College, registered 131 points.

Skyhawks Third At NE-10 Championships

With their relay teams leading the way and several second place finishes, Stonehill finished third at the 2008 Northeast-10 Outdoor Track Championships held by Bryant University. Southern Connecticut claimed the team title with a score of 219.33, while UMass-Lowell (157.66) was second and the Skyhawks (112) finished third. The 4x400 and the 4x800 relay teams both earned championship titles after breezing to first place finishes. Meghan Rocha also collected an individual championship with the top finish in the discus throw.

Northeast-10 Championships Up Next For Skyhawks

Lesley Clunie (Newburyport, Mass.) highlighted several stellar Stonehill performances with a second place finish in the 5000 meter event at the Brown Springtime Invitational on Sunday afternoon. Clunie (18:31.87) finished a distant second to Connecticut’s Katie Vaughan (18:09.90) but was the top non-Division I finisher. Freshman Angela Miller (Brockton, Mass.) had a strong showing in the 200 meter dash, finishing fifth but the top two places in the event went to UMass-Lowell, runners, individuals Miller will most likely see again in the Northeast-10 Championships.
