Year: 21st Season

Now in her 21st year at Stonehill, Karen Boen has brought the men’s and women’s cross country and track & field programs to national prominence with a resume unrivaled in the Northeast-10 Conference.

In Boen’s 18 years leading the women’s track and field program, the Skyhawks have been represented annually at major regional and national meets including the New England Championships, the Penn Relays, and the NCAA Division II National Championships. Boen has earned both Northeast-10 Indoor and Outdoor Coach of the Year awards, and was named the NCAA Division II East Region Coach of the Year in 2005 after leading the program to their best-ever finishes at the NE-10 and New England championship meets. Nearly every school record has been broken by Boen’s student-athletes during her tenure, and she has coached multiple All-American, All-New England, and All-Conference honorees.

2013-14 proved to be a banner year for Boen and the Skyhawks. Stonehill's women's cross country team captured its fifth consecutive Northeast-10 and East Region Championships in the fall, before the women's track & field team earned its first indoor and outdoor NE-10 titles in program history in the winter and spring. Stonehill also registered a program-best eighth-place finish at the 2014 New England Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Boen has also been active in conference and national organizations while at Stonehill, including serving a four-year term as a member of the NCAA Division II Track & Field Committee. Stonehill also hosted the 2006 NCAA Division II National Championships.

A 1979 graduate of Bridgewater State College with a degree in exercise physiology, Boen and her husband Carl reside in Stoughton and have three daughters, Courtney, Colleen, and Molly.
