In just two short seasons, Pam Arpe has placed her trademark stamp of success squarely on the Stonehill women's tennis program, as the Skyhawks have put together a pair of historic campaigns under her tutelage.
Since taking the reins of the program in 2004, Arpe has led Stonehill to a combined mark of 30-6 (.833), including a school-record 17 victories last spring that saw the Skyhawks claim their fourth Northeast-10 Conference regular season championship in school history with a perfect 12-0 league slate, highlighted by snapping three-time defending champion Bryant's 35-match conference winning streak last April. Arpe guided her crew to the Northeast-10 tournament title match for the second straight season as well as the program's second straight and third NCAA tournament appearance in four seasons, and for her efforts she was honored by her peers as the 2006 Northeast-10 Coach of the Year.
In her first season at the helm, Arpe immediately made an impact on Stonehill's fortunes, guiding her charges to a 13-3 overall mark and the runner-up spot in both conference regular season and tournament play while earning a trip to the 2005 NCAA Division II Championships. Success has certainly been no stranger to Arpe since her arrival at Stonehill in 2000, as she has guided the Skyhawk field hockey team to a pair of Northeast-10 Conference championships with a total of 97 victories as well as back-to-back trips to the NCAA tournament, including a spot in the 2005 Final Four. She also served as an assistant coach for the Stonehill men's tennis team in 2004 and helped lead the Skyhawks to their first 10-win campaign in over 25 years.
A resident of Falmouth, Mass., Arpe (pronounced are-pay) came to Stonehill after serving as assistant athletic director, varsity field hockey coach and varsity girls tennis coach at North Yarmouth Academy in Yarmouth, Maine, where she led the tennis team to a pair of state championships. Prior to that, she served as varsity field hockey coach at Greely High School in Cumberland, Maine. A 1972 graduate of Principia (Ill.) College with a degree in elementary education, Arpe spent two seasons at her alma mater as the Head Women's Basketball and Softball coach after spending eight years as the assistant athletic director, varsity field hockey coach and varsity girls tennis coach at Joel Barlow High School in Redding, Conn. Pam was named as the 1991 Connecticut Coach of the Year in Girls Tennis and led Joel Barlow to an overall mark of 154-4 (.975) mark and eight consecutive state championships during her tenure, including a state record 122 straight dual-match victories.
Pam and her late husband, Bill, are the parents of two daughters: Ashley and Amanda.
