Hickey Named NE-10 Player and Freshman of the Week
Easton, Mass. - Freshman Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass.) was named the Northeast-10 Player of the Week as well as the NE-10 Freshman of the week after leading the Skyhawks to a 2-0 record in NCAA Tournament play, it was announced by the conference on Monday.
Hickey went unbeaten in both singles and doubles as Stonehill claimed victories in the NCAA East Regional semifinal and final to earn their first ever trip to the round of 16 held on the campus of Rollins College in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
In the semifinals, Hickey won at No. 3 doubles with Emily Broderick (Middlebury, Conn.) 9-7 and also won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles helping Stonehill to advance to the East Regional Final.
Facing off against Queens in the final, Hickey and Broderick won 8-6 in doubles action and the freshman provided Stonehill with their first singles victory of the afternoon winning 6-1, 6-0.
Hickey was named NE-10 First-Team All-Conference in both singles and doubles this season and moved her singles record to a perfect 19-0 and her doubles to 13-3 with her four victories over the weekend
Stonehill plays California (Pa.) in the NCAA quarterfinals at Rollins College on Wednesday, May 13, at 4:00 p.m.
