Skyhawks place two doubles teams in "B" Flight Sweet 16

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (September 19, 2009) - The Stonehill College women's tennis team has had success on day one of the 2009 Wilson-ITA East Regional, hosted by Chestnut Hill College and Philadelphia University, on Friday.
Stonehill has placed two doubles teams into the round of 16 for the "B" Flight. Senior Samantha Dircks (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and sophomore Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) advanced with an 8-0 victory over Chloe Przonek and Erin Lawney of LIU-C.W. Post. They will square off against Alison Waring and Samantha Jean from Southern New Hampshire University today.
Sophomore Leah White (Walpole, Mass./Bishop Feehan) and Bacall Brooks (York, Maine/Saint Thomas Aquinas) are in the round of 16 after cruising to an 8-0 win over Sarah Harris and Stephanie Miller of Philadelphia after receiving an opening round bye. White and Brooks open play today against Karen Guwuiriro and Kristen Wasson of Chestnut Hill for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Freshmen Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and Jacqueline Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) opened their tournament with an 8-0 win over Lauren O'Neill and Brigid Damm from Molloy College, but were then handed an 8-3 setback by Bentley's Kara Murphy and Ellen Mader for a berth in the sweet 16.
White and Toegemann both advanced to the second round in "B" singles play on Friday. White topped Zarah Hasan from University of Sciences, 8-5, and will open play Saturday against Le Moyne's Rebecca Black. Toegemann swept past Regina Doherty from Chestnut Hill, 8-0, and will face Diane Kobasuik from Dowling in the second round for a spot in the round of 16.
Haedrich and Harrow were both defeated in the opening round. Haedrich dropped an 8-2 decision to Brittany Villa from Philadelphia, while Harrow was defeated by Dana Tausek from Division I Bryant University, 8-3.
Play continues at the Regional all day today and concludes on Sunday.
