April 16, 2000 - Stonehill Women's Lacrosse fell 7-6 to Bentley in overtime.  The set-back marks the only time in the program's history that Stonehill has lost to a conference opponent.

Toegemann/Dircks win A-doubles title, White/Brooks reach B-doubles final

NEWPORT, R.I. (October 5, 2009) - The Stonehill College women's tennis team placed second among seven teams that competed at the rain-delayed Salve Regina Grass Courts Doubles Invitational on Sunday. The event was originally scheduled for September, but was pushed back due to rain. The invitational was also moved from the grass courts of the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport due to the heavy rains from Saturday.

Stonehill collected 12 points, with two doubles teams reaching the finals of their flights. Senior Samantha Dircks (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and sophomore Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) won the A-Flight championship with a 9-7 decision over Anika Fischer and Sarah Miller from Wesleyan University.

Sophomores Leah White (Walpole, Mass./Bishop Feehan) and Bacall Brooks (York, Maine/Saint Thomas Aquinas) reached the finals on the B-flight, but were stopped by Wesleyan's Genevieve Aniello and Meredith Holmes, 8-5. Stonehill's third doubles pairing of freshmen Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and Jacqueline Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) were topped in the first round of the C-draw, 8-1, by eventual flight winners Linda McDougal and Casey Simchick from Wesleyan.

Wesleyan took the team title at the event with 16 points, followed by Stonehill. The College of the Holy Cross and host Salve Regina University tied for third with six points each, while Emmanuel College (3 pts), Assumption College (2) and Roger Williams College (2) rounded out the field.

Dircks/Toegemann earned their finals berth with an 8-3 quarterfinal win over Caitlin Osepchuk and Leah Ribchinsky of Roger Williams. The duo then topped Salve Regina's Erin Phillips and Jessica Tempano, 8-3 in the semifinals.

White/Brooks opened with an 8-5 win over Ivette Konopka and Emily Marr from Holy Cross in the quarterfinals before blanking Valerie Leso and Nichol Stevens from Salve Regina, 8-0, in the semis.

Haedrich and Harrow recovered from their opening round defeat to win the consolation bracket of the C-draw. The pairing defeated Assumption's Caitlin Harvey and Grace O'Neil, 8-1, in the consolation final after topping Kristin Dono and Katelin Richard from Roger Williams, 8-2, in the consolation semis.

This weekend's event closed out the fall season for Stonehill (3-0, 3-0 NE-10) who will continue their drive for a second-straight Northeast-10 Conference championship in the spring. The Skyhawks have won 15-straight NE-10 regular season dual matches heading into the spring season.
