Skyhawks Nearly Perfect in 9-0 Win

Rindge, N.H. - The Stonehill College Women's Tennis team
(13-4, 9-2 Northeast-10 Conference) took their second straight
Conference victory with a 9-0 sweep of the winless Franklin Pierce
Ravens (0-15, 0-12 Northeast-10 Conference). The Skyhawks,
who are fourth in the Conference standings, flirted with
perfection, dropping only two games in singles competition.
With three matches remaining this spring, the Skyhawks could grab a
top three seed in the Conference tournament, which starts April
23rd.
The reigning Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week,
Daniella Granato (Concord,
Mass./Concord-Carlisle), led the way for the Purple and White with
a win at first doubles and second singles. Teammate
Lindsey Herchel (Hampden, Mass./Hampden) provided
another strong outing for the Skyhawks, as well, defeating Lauren
Smilovich 6-0, 6-0 at the teams' top spot.
Granato increased her personal winning streak to 12 straight.
The senior stands a team- best 15-2, 11-0 in the Northeast-10
Conference.
Herchel and partner Elise Clark (Spring Lake,
N.J./Saint Anthony's) scored their tenth straight win, 8-0, at
second doubles over Kathleen Judge and Francesca Santoro. The
duo remains perfect against conference opponents, 10-0. Clark
matched her freshman partner's individual score with a 6-0, 6-0 win
at fourth singles.
Samantha Dircks (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville)
and Emily Broderick (Middlebury, Conn./Pomeraug)
claimed singles victories at third and sixth singles,
respectfully. Both dropped one game to the Ravens.
Allison Bleakney (Lewistown, Maine) won her second
straight, 8-0, at fifth singles. Bleakney, a senior, is now
14-3 overall, 9-2 in the NE-10. Broderick and classmate
Caitlin Ryan (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) won their
tenth game at third singles for the Skyhawks, as well.
The Skyhawks will have three matches this weekend starting with Dowling on Thursday. The match is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Stonehill Courts.
