April 27, 1986 - Sophomores Naren Dhamodharen and David Schreiner claimed the Men's tennis first doubles crown at the Northeast-8 Championship.  The Stonehill pair defeated Springfield 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.  The Stonehill Men's Tennis team finished the season 5-9 but earned fourth place at the tournament.


 

Herchel, Granato Earn Win in 6-3 Defeat

Waltham, Mass. - The Skyhawks (6-3, 2-1 Northeast-10 Conference) suffered their first conference set-back with a 6-3 loss to the Bentley College Falcons (8-4, 6-1 Northeast-10 Conference) Thursday evening.  The Falcons swept all doubles events on their way to handing the Skyhawks their first loss since March 5th.

Stonehill's freshmen Lindsey Herchel (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) and Caitlin Ryan (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) each earned victories in their respective matches.  Herchel, who competes in first singles, defeated Bentley's Heather Haggerty (7-5, 6-2).  Ryan, who competed for the first time at fifth singles, won 4-6, 7-5, 10-4.  She improved her personal record to 3-1.  As a team, the Skyhawks are 8-1 in the fifth spot.

Daniella Granato (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) came from behind to defeat Bentley's Kelly Fleszar (4-6, 6-3, 10-7) at second singles.  Granato's victory improved her record to a team-best 7-2.

The women will return to action this weekend, traveling to Saint Michael's on Saturday.  The Skyhawks have another Northeast-10 showdown Sunday, against Pace.  The game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at the Stonehill Courts.
