ALBANY, N.Y.-- The Stonehill women's tennis team successfully began defense of its Northeast-10 Conference title on Sunday afternoon with an 8-1 league dual-match triumph over Saint Rose at the Tri-City Tennis Center.
Juniors Elise Clark (Spring Lake, N.J.) and Allison Bleakney (Lewiston, Maine) were winners in both singles and doubles action for the visiting Skyhawks (4-2, 1-0 Northeast-10), who have won 15 straight conference regular season matches dating back to April 2005 and are 24-1 in their last 25 league outings dating back to April 2004. Freshmen Lauren Rowinski (Franklin Lakes, N.J.), Samantha Dircks (Stony Brook, N.Y.) and Jessica Schaaf (Old Lyme, Conn.) also posted triumphs in both singles and doubles play for Stonehill, while junior Daniella Granato (Concord, Mass.) teamed up with Clark for a win at number one doubles.
Freshman Lana Lamesic (Horgen, Switzerland) claimed the lone point of the day for the host Golden Knights (0-7, 0-4 Northeast-10) with a straight-set win at the number one singles spot.
Stonehill hosts Merrimack in its Northeast-10 home opener on Tuesday afternoon beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Saint Rose heads to Syracuse, N.Y. on Wednesday afternoon for a Northeast-10 outing with LeMoyne that begins at 4:00 p.m.
